I "pay" myself at the beginning of each month before anything else gets paid. This amount goes into a savings acct. I also take advantage of my banks Xmas club accts. There's something about having that "payment book" that makes it harder to not save.

I started out "paying" myself 1% of my monthly gross income. I now "pay" myself much more than that each month because I have become much better at budgeting.
