On a site like this, with so many running and doing lots of exercises, it's easy to get caught up in the excitement. However, it can lead to a let-down if it is not your own program. Work at your own pace and style. Do not worry about what everyone else is doing.

Yes - I have been discouraged when having set myself a fitness goal, I go on a forum and see my goal is tiny compared to others. But I have learnt that as long as I am improving myself, that is all that matters. Rome was not built in a day!!

I agree with every word you said...it has to be your own or you will fail.
FRIENDOFBACH 5/3/2012 12:30:00 AM

Been working on a training program and have to do it my way rather than just doing what everyone wants. I follow my coaches instructions rather than worrying about what other people think.

True, we have to focus on ourselves. Thanks for the reminder!

Yep - absolutely. If I start out "too fast" and try to stay at the front of the pack I often find I lose steam and can't keep up. I perfer to "chase" people which often helps me pace myself successfully.
BROWSUGABEAR46 5/2/2012 10:15:00 AM

You are so on target! emoticon
TONYVAND1 5/2/2012 9:16:00 AM

Thanks for that as far as fitness goes I do exactly that.
EMLOWE0109 5/2/2012 8:21:00 AM

So important! I once spent a month hiking with a large group - many of whom were much more fit than I was - and my stubborn tendency to keep up ended up taking me out of commission thanks to tendinitis. On the trail and in the long run, your own pace will always be the best choice!

That's right! Different people are in different stages, they are different ages, and have different needs. We are all here to share ideas and encouragement; but we are meeting our individual goals and needs.

Continually have to remind myself this. I'm not like everyone else, I'm me. What works for everyone else doesn't necessarily work for me.
Thanks for posting this.

You are absolutely right Jesse! Here's to putting on the blinders and staying focused on my own goals without looking right or left!
