Knowing Exactly Why I Am Going To The Grocery Store

I admit that for most of my life I have been a "willy-nilly" shopper. Whatever struck my fancy at any given moment in the grocery store went into my basket or cart. That has started to change gradually as now I choose carefully what I really want to eat that will benefit me in a positive way.

I have a small deep freezer and sometimes it is hard to know what is in it, so I printed a list of everything that is in it and when I take something out or put something in I either add or subtract it.
This way when I look at the list for grocery shopping day and butcher day, I know what is exactly in there.
I find that am not nearly as tempted by the chips and ice cream at the grocery store if I make detailed menus in my Nutrition Tracker while I am creating my grocery list.
I plan the next 7 days down to the last calorie. When I go to the store, I know that if I add a treat, something on my list must go to keep within my calorie limit. I remind myself that trading junk food for a healthy item does not help me reach my goal.
Occasionally I do decide on the junk food trade, but now it is a very conscious decision.
