I just bought "Wholesome Organic Blue Agave" sweetener and it is the best substitute sweetener I have ever tried! It's certified USDA, gluten free and a low glycemic organic sweetener. It's great on steel cut oatmeal or really anything else. I bought it at Costco, two bottles for $7 bucks.

I tried a recipe where you substituted cooked cauliflower for mashed potatoes and it was wonderful. Now I substitute cauliflower in all my potato recipes. So I thought, why not see what other things I could substitute cauliflower for that would be as good. I now use cauliflower as a substitute for pasta, with a low fat pasta sauce it is every bit as good as spaghetti or macaroni. This saves hundreds of calories and is really good.
To substitute for mashed potatoes, just boil up a head of cauliflower, drain and mash. For a pasta substitute cook flowerettes, drain and use your favorite low fat sauces. Top with a bit of Parmesan.4
