Don't eat anything while standing up. Put your food on a plate or in a bowl and sit down. Pay attention to what you are eating. Learning this behavior will eliminate a lot of mindless nibbling while preparing food, cleaning up after meals. Its also useful if you encounter food temptations at work. You will learn to say no to food product demonstrators.
Yes, there are exceptions. For instance if you are at a reception and there is nowhere to sit, then take your plate and walk away from the food to enjoy it. Then get rid of the plate and don't go back to buffet.
