When I know I'm going out to eat or (since it's nearly summer) to a cookout and I may splurge, I step up the intensity of my workout or go that extra 20-30 minutes BEFORE I go. I use those extra calories burned for my splurges (drinks or a yummy dessert or whatever!)

If you know you will splurge, putting in the extra exercise is great. But... Don't splurge because you worked a little harder. That's a trap that will make you gain weight. Been there, done that.
