Everyone knows that portion sizes have increased over the years and have many ways to battle them. One trick we've found that works is to buy the junior size Hamburger buns. A three ounce burger looks HUGE. Neither of our two adult sons have even noticed the difference in size and still have two
burgers when we grill. They've never complained that they need to eat more of something else to make up for the smaller burgers. In this case, their eyes wind up being the size of their stomachs.

Ever heard the saying "your eyes are bigger than your stomach"? I try to eat an apple a half hour before breakfast lunch and dinner, followed by 8oz of water or unsweatened decaf tea. Believe it or not, your body take 20 mins to process and under stand what has happened after eating, allowing your eyes to adjust.. when you're not "starving" it's alot easier to sit back and see your portion sizes, and take careful consideration as to what you really need to satisfy your nutritional goals.
I started using smaller plates, bowls and cups. A cup of cereal in a one cup bowl fills it to the top; if it's in a 2 cup bowl, it looks like a small portion and i feel like I want more. We eat with our eyes as well as our mouth.
