    Actually, the reason it's best to drink (water) a minimum of 30 minutes before and after a meal is because you want the food you consumer during your meal to sit in your stomach. When this happens, your body produces enzymes that induce a feeling of satiety or fullness. This is also the reason for eating more slowly, chewing your food more thoroughly, taking smaller bites, etc. If you drink liquids with your meals, you will negate this effect. So, no liquids sooner than 30-45 min. before and after a meal.

    So true, we shouldn't have anything to drink with a meal but 30 min before or after.
