A well stocked spice cabinet will add flavor to your meals without the calories. Think outside the box when using them. I like to add a pinch of Old Bay seafood spices to my scrambled eggs or sprinkle Zatar on my cottage cheese. I highly recomment Penzeys Spice Company. The spices are fresh and cheaper than the grocery store. When you do a mail order with them-they always toss in a "treat " for you
I have found that most recipes can be made with far fewer ingredients than they call for, especially if you add spices. I do this because I can't afford to get extra ingredients, but I am desperately trying to eat healthy. So I leave out the things that would make the food cost more than the basic food itself, and if you spice it up, it's tasty anyway.
Also, I've discovered that everything can be cooked in a microwave, since my stove is basically non-functional and I can't afford to repair or replace it.
