If you want to add onion in a recipe go with white onion. It is sweeter and more tasteful. It also lasts longer.

The calories in onions are very low at about 40 calories for a medium onion, they are included in all types of weight loss diets & onions have the effect of lowering glucose levels in the body, by increasing the amount of free insulin. Trace minerals such as chromium increase the tolerance to glucose, & lower insulin levels. Grilled cheese & sauteed Onions are delicious. Try Onion Soup, cucmber and onion salad, a low calorie dip with tomatoes & jalapenos, in cottage cheese w/ parsley.
The more red onion you eat, the lower your blood-sugar glucose levels will be. They are beneficial to gastrointestinal health. Red onions also reduce inflammation in the blood vessels. Onions have sulfur compounds, & the minerals calcium, magnesium. Onions can inhibit the development of cancerous cells, &have anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that can relieve a stomach ache.
