Keeping the money, that is for spending while out - not bills, in an envelope for the month. That way I know how much I have left to spend, and how much I am really spending a month. It helps to save a ton of money, and to keep track of your spending habits for the year!
A lot of people don't know that when they use their debit or credit card they lose track of spending, and it doesn't register as spending real money. A research study showed that spending cash registers as pain in the human brain, so you remember spending the money.
I work at a cash register and whenever I come in for the day and see dollar coins, I buy them from the store. I don't spend them. They go home with all my other change. I won't cash them in until I am desperate for bill money usually but, I am saving for next year's honeymoon this time!
Each payperiod I withdraw a certain amount of cash that I can spend during those two weeks. I write down where that money goes. Each month I review how I spent the cash. This helps with my budgeting & analyzing my wants & needs. I know if I need a new budget category or if I'm buying too many treats
