When I swim, I wet the bricks lining the pool to help me count how many laps I do while still allowing me to focus on my breathing, my form, my thoughts, etc. I wet one brick in the shallow end for each lap to the deep end and back, so 5 bricks = 10 laps. Then in the deep end, I wet one brick per 10 laps. Done in groups of five on each end, I know at a glance how many I've done and I check my time every 50 laps.
I started out at 100 laps in 50 minutes and am now at 150 laps in 60 minutes. I hope to drop to 55 minutes for 150 laps by August 1st. I love trying to beat my best time! 30
