Trekking poles make walking more fun. Learn to use them properly with a book, class or video. Poles increase the intensity of your regular walk. They add stability to hiking on trails or other uneven ground. Make more of your walk. Use a pair of trekking poles.
Trekking Poles are available online or at finer outdoor stores. Try a few pairs for a good fit.. Mine are LEKI poles for women. I like them because they are light and have a comfy grip.

If you don't feel like you can jog at all, start out by just jogging to the 1st telephone pole, house, mailbox, whatever. Then walk the rest of the way. After you're comfortable with that, try the next pole, house, mailbox.
Then try alternating, walk to the 1st pole jog to the next pole, walk to the next pole, jog to the next pole. It can be fun challenging yourself. Before you know it, you will be jogging more than you could in the beginning.
I registered for the American Lung Associations Trek Across Maine. It is a 180 mile cycling trek in 3 days. I had to raise $500.00 and asked a friend to do it with me. I was committed to it and needed to train for it. It has kept me burning between 3000 and 6000 calories per week.
The event is in 12 days and after that I will find a running event to sign up for. It works. I have lost 46 lbs.
