Ice Cream Substitute

Sometimes I crave something cold…usually in the form of ice cream in a bowl. Popsicles are okay once in awhile….but now I buy a big bag of mixed frozen fruit…I put a portion in my bowl still frozen. Tastes delicious, fills me up especially if I add yogurt and it's all on my food plan….takes longer to eat too…melt in your mouth goodness!

What's healthy in the Junk Food You are craving after workout?

I've noticed that after a good workout, when I am suddenly "craving" some junk food like ice cream or something cheese-y etc, if I take a moment to think about what is in the food that might be soothed with a healthier substitute. For ice cream, I usually find a small container of Greek yogurt with fruits or some nuts satisfy my craving and give me good nutrients for my muscles after the workout.

Greek Yogurt

Greek yogurt can be subbed for many things: Mix 2 parts reg mayo w 1 part non-fat, plain Greek yogurt for tuna or chicken salad; yogurt w salsa & tortilla chips; yogurt instead of sour cream in any cold preparation. Cuts the fat & adds protein, calcium, & probiotics at the same time. ( emoticon

Eat butter, not margarine

It IS good for you, in fact, dairy helps you break down other fat in the body.

Actually, avoid anything that has hydrogenated fat (transfats) stick to known and natural! emoticon

Oreo Substitute

I don't know about you, but I love Oreo's! However, I have decided to go organic. An excellent substitute is Newman O's. Everyone I know who has tried them says that they taste either exactly like, or even better than Oreo's (I think they taste better). You will still have to watch calories, but you will at least know that everything in that little cookie is organic!

Craving for sweet stuffs

Whenever i ate only healthy food the whole day and i come back from work i need sweeties. Even if i resist the feeling for 3 or more ours in the evening i cant hold it no longer.

I found a no calorie solution for my sweet tooth. Diet coke, such as coke zero.

Its pretty sweet and the carbonacid gives me a filling feeling.

Almost everyday i gonna drink 500 ml...thats of course not much healthy, but for the beginning a substitute for worse choices like dunkin donuts ;)

Greek Yogurt

Versitile!! I love what I can do with low calorie, high protein ingredient. Fat free greek yogurt has replaced sour cream, regular yogurt, 1/2 my salad dressing, thickener, and replaces mayo! So good and much healthier.

Frozen Fruit Treat

Substitute ice cream with frozen fruit. Not only will your taste buds thank you for the treat, but you'll sneak in some daily fruit servings this way too. I like to mix up frozen mango chunks, pomegranate seeds and berries, but you can use whatever fruit you like. (click for more info)

Protein Shakes - and feel full!

I start my day w/ protein powder - in whatever form I please - made by Jillian Micheals ($10-14 scoops)..15g protein & 100 calories! I swear, I was surprised how filling! And a plus - ur getting 1 serving of water b/c u mix w/8 oz. They are so great - netime! I advise atleast try!

Baking - Substitute Apple Sauce For Oil

Instead of oil, substitute an equal amount of no added sugar (with out artificial sweeteners) apple sauce for oil. This works great in cakes, etc.

Use Fat Free Greek Yogurt Instead of Sour Cream
