I've noticed that after a good workout, when I am suddenly "craving" some junk food like ice cream or something cheese-y etc, if I take a moment to think about what is in the food that might be soothed with a healthier substitute. For ice cream, I usually find a small container of Greek yogurt with fruits or some nuts satisfy my craving and give me good nutrients for my muscles after the workout.
Greek yogurt can be subbed for many things: Mix 2 parts reg mayo w 1 part non-fat, plain Greek yogurt for tuna or chicken salad; yogurt w salsa & tortilla chips; yogurt instead of sour cream in any cold preparation. Cuts the fat & adds protein, calcium, & probiotics at the same time. (
I don't know about you, but I love Oreo's! However, I have decided to go organic. An excellent substitute is Newman O's. Everyone I know who has tried them says that they taste either exactly like, or even better than Oreo's (I think they taste better). You will still have to watch calories, but you will at least know that everything in that little cookie is organic!
Whenever i ate only healthy food the whole day and i come back from work i need sweeties. Even if i resist the feeling for 3 or more ours in the evening i cant hold it no longer.
Substitute ice cream with frozen fruit. Not only will your taste buds thank you for the treat, but you'll sneak in some daily fruit servings this way too. I like to mix up frozen mango chunks, pomegranate seeds and berries, but you can use whatever fruit you like. (click for more info)
I start my day w/ protein powder - in whatever form I please - made by Jillian Micheals ($10-14 scoops)..15g protein & 100 calories! I swear, I was surprised how filling! And a plus - ur getting 1 serving of water b/c u mix w/8 oz. They are so great - netime! I advise atleast try!
