Does popping kernels of corn in a brown bag actually work? YOU BETCHA! I put 2.5 tbs in a brown sack, fold, fold, fold, squeeze the fold and then microwave for 2 to 3 minutes. (Listen for the pops) No oil, no butter and today I topped it with feta and smoked paprika. For this popcorn junky this trick is a winner!
How many places have you read that you can take a lunch sack and popcorn kernals and make your own DIY microwave popcorn? I never believed it - but it's true! Kernals in a brown bag, fold the top a few times and pop for about 2.5 minutes - today I topped mine with feta and smoked paprika! YUM!
I love popcorn as a snack and would buy 94% fat free microwave 3 packs UNTIL NOW. Use a large tupperware bowl with a lid...don't seal the lid all the way around, just enough to hold it on. OR: A paper lunch sack works well. Insert 1/4 cup or less popcorn (white or yellow or whatever you like). Put into microwave for 2-3 minutes...listen for popping to slow like you normally would. (use caution if you use a glass bowl with a plate inverted for a lid as it will be hot)
If you're like me... you love snacking in front of the TV!!! But this mindless eating can be a huge problem. So, buy an Orville Redenbacker's Air-Popped Popcorn machine, some whole popcorn kernels, and then you can have a HUGE bowl of air-popped popcorn to snack on for about 150 calories! And tons better for you than bag or movie theater popcorn. Popcorn seasonings are great too, just watch the sodium content.
I buy the President's Choice Blue Menu 100-calorie popcorn bags and I make it into a salt and vinigar snack. Little bit of white vinegar sprinkled on and some sea salt. It's fixes my cravings for salty chips! Yum!
I use Kernal Seasons popcorn seasoning on my popcorn. I spray the popcorn with butter spray and then put the seasoning on. It comes in a variety of flavors...sweet, cheesy, and hot. We keep several on hand for a nice variety.
Fill a mug full of water and microwave it for 1 minute. Then take out the mug and put in your bag of popcorn. Set to desired time. The "pre-heated" microwave will leave fewer unpopped kernels in the bag, and more popcorn for you to enjoy!
For air-popped popcorn, instead of salt and tons of butter, I use Mrs. Dash Table Blend and a table spoon or so of heart healthy spread, melted. Put the popcorn in a storage bag, shake in some Mrs. Dash and the "butter" and shake it until it's all blended. Yummy and still healthy!
