Vision Board & GOALS

I "vision collaged" my back of the door mirror, this way I "SEE" it all the time!!! Everyday, sometimes several times a day! Foods, Exercises, Physically fit bodies, places I want to go and things I want to do!! Anything that is something to strive for or look forward to I put it on the edge of that mirror. SO when I do that one last check in the mirror before I sweep out the door I know what I want in LIFE!!! EVerything I want to live for is there: Prayer, Familiy, Friends.Healthy Lifestyle!

Off the couch, on the floor..

Determined to stay off the couch in the evening after a long day and exercise, I found if I sit on the floor I end up doing all my Calisthenics, yoga poses and stretching, while hanging with hubby and enjoying our tv show.

Just walk or 10 minutes...

Seriously this works every time. If I just don't feel like hitting the GYM I tell myself, "I'm just going to walk or do 10 minutes". Toss on your work out clothes and shoes & go out the door. I hit the gym and I am always excited that I pull through and do an amazing workout/run. I am NEVER beating myself up for going only if I don't at all!

Review and Tweak the Plan~

Whenever i'm getting off track or even when i'm feeling a little bored I look over my old blogs. Almost all of them give me a more positive perspective or solutions to what I want to tweak or change. Should I not feel more empowered or motivated to a new direction then I hit some of my SP friends blogs.

Fo'gettabout it.

Everyone gets off track at some point. Don't beat yourself up! Take a deep breath, allow yourself to be human, and go back to the plan.

Plan to eat, then eat the plan

Make up your days meals and snacks in the tracker. Make sure that you are within the given range of the big 4 (calories, fat, carbs, protein). Then run the daily report and see how your Pie chart for where your calories are coming from matches up to what is recommended. If it isn't close, go back and pick different items so that you come as close as possible. Then all you have to do is eat what you planned...weight loss is coming your way!

1/2 that portion...Break
fast,
Lunch, Dinner

Half that portion! I half the portion of whatever i'm about to eat. If it can't be halved without wasting part then I don't eat it Example: Sandwich you can half & save for later...cookie you would have to share if a person is available or throw the half away if you have no one to share it with. IF I would have to waste it then I don't eat it. Planning!

Have a Plan

I'm not one for stringent plans, but when it comes to meals, it's necessary to have a solid idea. When I know what I'm eating for my next meal or snack, it's easy to stay focused, as my mind is not thinking about WHAT to eat. That's when temptation sets in. Always have your meals planned. Or at least a good idea.

Sticking to a diet plan

Plan, plan, plan. I make batches of healthy snacks which need no refrigeration. Example : sugar free meringues, I change the flavouring often so I don't get bored ; meat crisps (put lean meat in the oven until it is crispy). I keep tupperwares at work and home, and refresh them regularly. That way if I have a pang for something sweet or salty I do not have excuses to make poor choices.

Fast breakfast that tastes like dessert!

Fast -- 1/2c chocolate soy milk (light, pre measured and frozen is best), blend with half a banana, 1tsp honey, couple drops of vanilla and a bit of flax seed. --- yummo!

Grocery tips

Make a grocery list from your week's menu plan. Do not shop when you are hungry. PUT THE GROCERIES IN THE TRUNK of the car and don't nibble on the way home. Go in the door closest to the fresh produce. Avoid processed foods if you can. AND READ THE NUTRITION LABELS.

Plan Ahead

I use my myfitnesspal app on my droid to plan my meals a day ahead. I do it right before I go to bed so that I know exactly how long my breakfast will take to prepare and how long my lunch will take to pack. It also helps me keep from veering off track during the day.

Hope is not a plan.

Sorry Big "O", hope is not a plan. After not being active for almost a decade, I committed to a basic plan of getting back in shape. Starting from a basic framework, i received additional guidance from professionals and others that helped fill in the details. This includes a referral to the wonderful resources available at SparkPeople. Envision the future you want, start with a basic road map, commit, then engage and press on (and enjoy the journey)!

"Who Has Time To Slim Slowly?"

YOU DO!
In spite of what the advertiser responsible for that line says, if you are just starting (or re-starting) your weight loss journey, slow down! The biggest obstacle to success is being impatient and in a hurry to achieve results. Making too many adjustments at once and exercising too hard will derail your enthusiasm! Instead, plan small, sustainable changes and let your body adjust gradually to the demands of exercise. You will find the process a lot more pleasant AND rewarding!

PLAN

Without a road map, we get nowhere! Write out specific goals and a plan of action. Be detailed. WHAT, HOW, WHEN, WHERE and even WHY are important questions to answer.

Put off treats until you have eaten your necessary nutrients for the day

Plan you menus. How many calories, protein, carbohydrates, and fats do you need for each day?
Then promise yourself you will not eat a treat/cheat off of your plan until and unless you have eaten all the nutrients for that day.
Just as you need fuel to drive your car, feed yourself healthy foods before you choose any extra calories.
Remember, in some cases WATER can quench both thirst AND hunger.
Congratulate yourself for each day you eat on plan!

Allow yourself to spontaneously workout!

While it is great to have a pre-scheduled workout plan I have surprised myself at times with squeezing in a good cardio and stretching session out of the blue! I keep my Zumba dvd in the XBox 360 so it's available anytime the TV is! I do this even in my pajamas! That's the benefit of working out at home! emoticon

Create your "destination map" and plan your virtual trip

Set a goal, then plan the action steps to reach it.
Pretend the goal is a destination and determine the time or distance to reach it. Then pull out your calendar and break down the "journey" into small, manageable steps.
Even plan for "rest stops" which can be days off or plateaus. This will give you a daily plan and help keep you motivated to stay on track. Whether it's weight, a race, or quitting a bad habit - YOU CAN DO IT WITH SOME PLANNING AND SUPPORT!
