Stress Management: 4 A's - REMINDER! 4 A's

I am keeping the follwing four A's in mind: Avoid, Alter, Accept and Adapt. Whenever I feel my head is ready to pop from stress i'm going to look at the root cause and determine which one of the 4 A's can be applied.

Born This Way

At least once a day, I put on my headphones and blast "Born This Way" by Lady Gaga. Regardless of your musical preferences, it is such a powerful message. I sit and take it all in, and I feel confident and motivated. Bonus - It is also a great workout song!

I'm beautiful in my way
Cause God makes no mistakes
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way

Don't hide yourself in regret
Just love yourself and you're set
I'm on the right track baby
I was born this way

Repeat a Mantra

"Nothing tastes as good as thin feels."

When you find yourself reaching for something you shouldn't be eating, or if you're going to a second portion that you don't need, repeat this to yourself.

Distance Running Mantra

I picked this up after reading "Secrets of a Former Fat Girl":
Her mantra was, "It's not an option" (aka INO). She applied this as being "It's not an option to stop running."

I came up with my own, and while a little harsh....it kept me going. It was especially handy when training for my first half marathon.

"Fat girls don't run" - Yes harsh...but as long as I kept running and didn't stop to walk...I was fit!

MANTRA

When I feel the desire to overeat or underexercise I use a mantra to remind me why I want to stay on this journey to good health. Right now my mantra is Believe in the Dream.

Weight Loss SHOULD Feel Like You're Sick!

Imagine how bad you feel when you're sick. It's terrible. Why? Because your body is getting rid of something it doesn't need. Imagine how bad it feels when you're trying to lose weight. It sucks! But this is the reason: your body is getting rid of crap that doesn't need to be there. Enjoy it!

Keep Moving No Matter What.

My exercise mantra is simply, "Keep moving. No matter what."

I have days where I feel like crap & would rather hide than exercise. But I get up & make myself workout. I feel bad, but that doesn't make me incapable of exercise.

If I slack off & don't exercise, I feel worse later on.

A Mantra for surving stress

One mantra I have learned is "oh it's just one of those faamily thangs" for times of stress. One doesn't have to explain your feelings or situation to others. Just say those words. All women friends understand. And it helps you yourself put it into perspective.
