I don't put anything in my mouth without asking myself why I'm eating it. To see what it tastes like? Okay, just one. To refuel myself? Dig in. Because I feel like it? NOPE! when I simply "feel" like eating something, it usually means I'm "feeling" some other emotions, stress, fatigue, guilt and I'm just eating to not deal with them. Before I eat anything, I figure out what I'm really "feeling" first.
When sweet cravings hit, 'once you cop, you can't stop!!' When the craving (or temptation hits for the first time, I tell myself, "I will, but in 30 minutes". I keep this up as long as I can. By the time I give in, I still do less damage than I would have done. Sugar has NO nutritional value!!! So it's not a necessity, but a luxury. Let's make it worth it and enjoy it even more!
Fighting the Halloween candy splurge? Feel like the "bad guy" for banning junk food from your house? Here's a trick I use - buy foods you DON'T like. That way you're not tempted to chow down on something that you know isn't healthy. Hate fruity candy? Buy jelly beans to give out for Halloween. Hate ranch flavor chips? Buy those instead of your favorite cheesy chips. It's way easier to resist temptation if you DON'T find it tempting!
Sorry folks but I am a candy-a-holic. Instead of cookies and cake I rather eat a whole package of Sour Patch kids. However, to slim down I put a stop to this. Instead I eat watermelon, peaches, strawberries, bananas, etc.
If you are ever tempted by a candy bar or other sweets and snacks just tell yourself over and over that you could eat right and lose the weight now, and eat the sweets later. Tell yourself that you could always buy a 60 cent candy bar or a 99 cent bag of chips, etc. on another day. It always helps!
Junk food tastes good right now but an hour later you FEEL the negative effects. Weeks or months later you SEE the negative effects. Something great for a few seconds or minutes isn't worth something horrible for months or years.
If you see it you will eat it! Don't take junk home! If you HAVE to have it eat it at work and share with co-workers. If you bring home a pack of cookies you will prob eat all of them. Leave the junk at the door.
