Managing Stress

When my kids interrupt me, I feel a great deal of stress. If I am cooking or cleaning, I feel they are interrupting my job. I reduce my stress by remembering that THEY are my job! So when you are interrupted at home or work remember the interruptions are part of your job, too.

POWER IN NUMBERS!!

I recently went on my FB and sent out a message looking for people to exercise with for five days a week after my work-out buddy and i developed conflicting schedules. To my surprise so many people were looking for the same thing. I find myself wanting to do even more so now I am exercising at home on my bike watching an hour long t.v. show first thing in the morning before I leave with a friend to where ever. Its great I'm able to be more motivated and its creating a lil club of our own!!

Get Boiling Faster

Need to bring water to a boil before adding an ingredient? You probably know that covering your pot with a lid causes water to boil faster. I go one step further: My tea kettle is fully enclosed. I add the water to the tea kettle and put it on the stove.

Its been Sprung :redo home

One way 2 change the appearance/energy of your home are photographs! 4 the price of an affordable frame you can take a photograph or one online & mount it 4 a new look 4 pennies! Size is irrelevant; you can take a number of 4x6 hanging them as a collection for a WOW factor. You can change them by seasons or whatever moves you. A 4x6 @ Rite-Aid is 19 cents. I always look for free frames on Freecycle.com or the local thrift or yard sale.
Think out of the box or out of the frame so 2 speak!

Allow yourself to spontaneously workout!

While it is great to have a pre-scheduled workout plan I have surprised myself at times with squeezing in a good cardio and stretching session out of the blue! I keep my Zumba dvd in the XBox 360 so it's available anytime the TV is! I do this even in my pajamas! That's the benefit of working out at home! emoticon

Buy a house below your means

Before buying a home, go to several banks & ask them to estimate the mortgage amount for which you will be approved. Then, look for a home for less. Twenty years ago when my husband & I were looking to buy our 1st home together, we were told we could afford $X. We figured we could afford that, but we'd have little money for anything else. So we looked for houses that were asking 50-80% of that amount & found one for 65% of what the bank would approve, leaving... (click title for more)

Walking in every occasion

Whenever someone calls me on the phone, instead of sitting and talking, I walk around my apartment while I'm talking. This morning, someone kept me forty-five minutes on the phone emoticon and at the end of the conversation, I looked at my pedometer and it marked over 2000 steps. Not fast ones of course, but it does beat sitting in my couch!

Pull the Plug!

Even when they are turned off, electrical appliances use energy. Save some money on your utility bill by unplugging items when they are not in use. Good for the environment and your pocketbook!

Icy Cold Hydration That Stays Cold Longer Without Coolers or Bags of Ice

Fill various sized bottles and jugs half full of water. Place bottles (not gallon jugs) so that they lean (keep stable) to one side while freezing (without lids). Keep gallon jugs upright (also no lids). When ready to use fill with fresh water and screw lids on snuggly and you're all set to go!

"Parents, secure your mask first"

If you have flown on an airplane, you have heard the, "Parents, secure your mask, first." You have to start fixing yourself, before you can help others. We try to help and fix the lives of family, friends, and strangers. We are no good to others, if we too, are broken. emoticon

Home Workout

Instead of joining an expensive gym, save the cost of transportation to and from, as well as the membership fee by investing in a simple set of dumb bells or resistance bands, and working out at home.

Don't Come Home Until You Reach 10,000 Steps

I am a stay-at-home wife and usually don't get out much so now that I started going to yoga and zumba each morning M-F, I wear my pedometer and make sure I don't return home until I have reached 10,000 steps. It makes me feel better knowing that once I get home I have crossed off 2 fitness goals.

The TRX Suspension Trainer really works!

The TRX is a great strength training tool and program you can use at home and some gyms offer classes with it, too. It looks like resistance bands but isn't stretchy; it allows you to strength-train using your own body weight in a variety of ways. It hooks to a door, tree or other secure pole.
