Sweet tooth approaching

Right when i began to feel a sweet tooth approaching I go straight to the fridge and grab a apple. A lot of the problem with eating bad and you know you shouldn't is because you sit there and keep thinking about it then your mind starts wondering around the kitchen seeing what you have that will trigger that urge to be intense. Instead of falling off the deep end get up right when you feel like you want something & grab you some fruit, Can't regret what you didn't do. GOOD LUCK!

Avoiding calorie-laden munchies

When I have the "thungries," which is that time when I want something, but I just don't know what it is, I try a cup of bouillon.

I buy the reduced-sodium kind, put a little less hot water in it, and make a joke about having roast chicken or roast beef as I sip it. It is comforting, relieves both hunger and thirst, and it tastes good for very minimal calories. There are other flavors such as vegetable and onion, as well.

Go for yogurt when you need calories or are in doubt

If you find that you just ate under calories for the day, eat a cup or two of Fat Free Light yogurt. Most store brands carry a wonderful selection that will be around 100 cals, and less than 20 carbs (like Publix brand).

And the flavors are great! Instead of eating a piece of cake, I eat Black Forst Cake yogurt, or Carrot Cake yogurt.

There's a reason Michael & Fiona eat yogurt on Burn Notice - it's good for you, cheap to buy, & is great for energy!

You're going to mess up!

Write down your barriers to success. Think really hard about what is going to get in your way. Then think of ways to avoid those barriers.

Colorful Cherry Tomatoes - Pop in Some Flavor!

Cherry tomatoes make great guilt free snack! When I open the fridge door looking for something to munch on, they are the first thing I see. They have a nice bright flavor that prevents me from grazing deeper in to the depths of the fridge. Plus, it is kind of fun to pop them in your mouth and hear them crunch! Each cherry tomato is only 3 calories. It is a great effortless way to pop in more servings of vegetables.

Healthy snack patrol!

I keep a basket of healthy snacks on the kitchen counter. I fill it with nutrition/health bars, trail mix in single servings, granola bars, etc. This helps to keep me on track during a "snack attack"! I grab something from this basket to satisfy those cravings or moments of hunger, that way, I know I am choosing wisely emoticon

Make Snacks Count!

When choosing a snack, I used to look for low-calorie, low-fat items that wouldn't do much harm. I found that I would often have trouble meeting my goals for protein and fiber while staying within the range for calories. Now I choose snacks that are a good source of fiber and protein, and it is much easier to meet all of my nutrition goals for the day.

Lowfat Baking Alternatives

When I make muffins, cakes, or brownies, I substitute skim milk for the milk, applesauce for the oil, and egg beaters for the eggs. If it calls for 1/2 c. of oil, use 1/2 c. of applesauce. Egg beater conversion is 1 egg equals 1/4 c. egg beaters. This really cuts down on the fat and it doesn't take away from the taste.

Never skip breakfast

I am never hungry in the morning, does it sound like you?
(Most people aren't hungry upon awakening) then I take time to plan my meals and my day, instead of shoving food down.

Craving chips?

Whenever I'm craving a bag of flavored chips, I cut up half a romaine lettuce heart into strips, then season it with whatever I'm want--this works well with products like Mrs Dash, curry powder, and those generic salt-free spice rubs, like cajun flavoring, etc. Crunchy and yummy without all the fat!

Help for the Nibbling Cook

I'm often very hungry by dinner time making this a hard time to stay on track while cooking. I have found that if I put out the fresh vegies with a nonfat sour cream dressing (I mix the sour cream with powdered ranch dressing), I stay on track with nutritious, low calorie, finger foods. This way I can ignore all the other foods that call my name!

Low-Cal "Binge" foods

Pickles and Sugar-Free Popsicles work when you need to "binge" - both satisfy cravings without all the calories. A single popsicle is 15 calories; pickles range from 5 to 30 calories per spear depending on if you're going for dill or bread & butter. They can satisfy sweet, sour, & crunch cravings.

Snacking at night? I keep it to veggies....

I am often wanting to eat at the end of the day, even after a dinner. Now, to maintain, instead of my past snacking I limit myself to vegetables, as many as I can eat. They are low calorie and filling with all the fiber. If I still want a snack after that, I make it a taste, not a binge.

Going out and will be gone most of the day...

If planning a day out & about, doing errands, at the park, shopping or driving to a nature trail always bring a bag with me with water, healthy granola bars and fruit to keep me & my family going. This avoids temptations to stop for fast food or the corner store along the way
