Track EVERYTHING you eat no matter how small.
Trying to drink 8 8 oz glasses of water a day when I first started seemed monumental and was very stressful. So I decided to start by drinking 8 2 oz glasses a day and work my way up to the 8 oz glass. Now I have no trouble drinking 12-15 8 oz glasses a day. Start small and work your way up!
When I have a day when I don't feel like exercising and I really want to over indulge in food, ALL my good intentions can easily get pushed by the wayside. If I force myself to do a little thing, it keeps me closer to getting back on track.
It is amazing to see what you really eat when you write it down. What I find to be most helpful is the idea that it keeps me accountable and on track. When I am tracking my food intake I snack less and eat healthier. Being accountable for what you are doing so important to your success.
