Reminding Yourself of Why You're Doing This

We all mess up, but we can limit our mistakes if we remind ourselves of why we're doing this. I find it helpful to post my goals in places that I will see them constantly. For example, I have them set in a really pretty frame on my computer desk, I laminated them and use it as a bookmark, and I even have them written down on an index card that I carry in my wallet. It makes it a lot harder to spend money on junk food when I open my wallet to pay and see my goals staring me right back in the face.

How to Set Indestructible Goals

I always have a hard time setting goals. I always start off strong and then a few days later, I've fallen off the wagon. A trick that I've learned is to settle on your top goals that you have for THIS year and then write them down in specific terms. Don't just write down, "Exercise daily". Instead, write down, "Walk 1 mile a day" or "Complete work-out video 3 times a week".

SHEER WILLPOWER

When seeking motivation to achieve a goal - say a dietary goal or a weight loss goal - I place the goal within grasp. I don't create a goal for myself that is too difficult and I don't put it too far out in the future. Loosing 5 to 7 lbs is a good goal and two weeks is not too far out there, I set the goal and then pursue it doggedly. When that goal is reached I can set another. For me, short bursts of energy is the key.

Set small goals

I set small goals to meet. Instead of setting my goal @ 75 pounds, I choose 10 to 20 pounds depending on how I am feeling at the time. Don't overwhelm yourself.

Use commitment management instead of tracking as you go

emoticon I've learned that if I track my food and my exercise at the beginning of the day instead of as I go, I'm more likely to get it done. I feel like I made a commitment to eat these things and do this amount of exercise today so I better get it done.

Mini goals

Losing an amount of weight can seem really daunting - I have 50lbs to lose and thinking of it like that it is such a big number. So to make it easier I make myself mini goals. Reaching the next decade, stone (I am from the UK). My next mini goal is that I have 3lbs to go and I will be half way there! Focusing on a smaller amount of weight to lose seems more do-able and inspires me to move onto the next mini goal.

Trick Yourself into Exercising When You Don't Feel Like It

Set your goal to just work out for at least 10 minutes - and do it even when you don't feel like it. It's only 10 minutes, right?!? It's not going to kill you!

For me - when exercising I get energized. If I trick myself (even consciously) into JUST getting started - that 10 minutes can easily stretch to an hour or more. On those days that I just can't get with it - at least I get 10 minutes in.

Use stickers

Buy some stickers you like and use them on a calendar to see your progress. I use happy faces for days i ate healthy all day (no cheats!) and i use stars on days i got exercise in. This way at a glance you can look at your calendar and see your progress. It makes you feel good and you can also see where you need work.

Vision Board & GOALS

I "vision collaged" my back of the door mirror, this way I "SEE" it all the time!!! Everyday, sometimes several times a day! Foods, Exercises, Physically fit bodies, places I want to go and things I want to do!! Anything that is something to strive for or look forward to I put it on the edge of that mirror. SO when I do that one last check in the mirror before I sweep out the door I know what I want in LIFE!!! EVerything I want to live for is there: Prayer, Familiy, Friends.Healthy Lifestyle!

I remind myself of why I am really doing this

Sure I want to look good in a bathing suit and have my clothes fit great... but really I want the longest and healthiest life I can give myself and my daughter. I want her to grow up knowing limits and how to eat healthy. And I want the energy to enjoy every moment with her now!

Off the couch, on the floor..

Determined to stay off the couch in the evening after a long day and exercise, I found if I sit on the floor I end up doing all my Calisthenics, yoga poses and stretching, while hanging with hubby and enjoying our tv show.

Goal Setting for motivation, planning, actions & SUCCESS!

Set Monthly goals in Micro, Mini, Medium & Major. Blog these at the end of the month for the following month then adjust "other goals" for tracking, accountability & celebrating!! If you are a list person, this works!! Spark Streaks can be set to support each months goals. Micro & Mini goals tend to be the building blocks to medium/major goals. This way you don't get over whelmed or miss steps. You set up your training and prep. My monthly blogs are helping me!! Check them out!

Log your meals BEFORE you eat them

When you are planning your next meal, try logging it first. It will let you see exactly how many calories and nutrients you are about to eat, and how it will impact your ability to reach your goals for that day. If you don't like what you see, you still have time to adjust!

Goal-Setting as a Mood Booster

I have found that setting goals not only yields results (as in accomplishing the obvious), but it boosts my self-confidence, and helps me think through my words and actions before following through. There is much satisfaction in completing goals!

Need a quick Blood Sugar pick me up?

I did not have many carbs at dinner and noticed on my tracker that I had not met my protein for the day. Two problems: I was at my daily limit of fat but my after dinner glucose check was 65! Even though it wouldn't be the end of the world if I missed my goal a little, I wanted to be creative instead. My solution: I cut up a medium nectarine into a one cup serving of fat free greek yogurt and topped it with some cinnamon! Instantly fixed my protein deficit/sugar crisis, and I met my goal. emoticon

Plan Goal Reward Early

Having a reward ready for when you reach a goal makes reaching it that much better.

Also, if it's a physical reward knowing that you already have it will help motivate you to stay on track and push harder to reach the goal.

Superpower your Willpower

I read this hint in "Women's World" (May 28, 2012) issue and IT REALLY WORKS!!

When cutting back on sweets or other temptstions, it is much more powerful to say "I don't want it" rather than "I can't have it." Studies show that saying "I can't..." makes me feel deprived and weakens my resolve. By saying "I don't want...", I feel in control and more empowered to stay on track. Try it!!
