A Little Exercise Goes A Long Way!
Do you ever find that you just can't gt enough liquids during your day? Does the thought of "just one more glass of water" sound like torture? I know that my palate desires FLAVOR!
I wasn't much of a BS tester till I got my A1C results back...What a Disappointment. Now I test first thing in the morning, before I exercise and 2hrs after dinner.
Set your goal to just work out for at least 10 minutes - and do it even when you don't feel like it. It's only 10 minutes, right?!? It's not going to kill you!
It's fifteen minutes before I have to pick my husband up, one of the grankids is scurrying about and the house still needs vacuuming. I stand on my tip toes and suck in my stomach and start moving the vacuum. Wow I had a workout for sure. Calf raises, crunches and moving the furniture for my arms. All this from vacuuming. There are so many mini workouts we can do throughout the day without people even recognizing it. Sometimes family just wants our attention and the chores are overwhleming.
I keep my legs moving as much as I possibly can while going to and from the bus on my power wheelchair, and it has really helped--I broke my plateau and have lost 15 pounds! I do single leg extensions and add more movements as it is safe to do so.
Most people work sooo hard on cardio to blast of fat in their body, but end up still having those layers of fat hanging everywhere; tummy, but, arms, legs. What's wrong? I found the key to exercise to be slim lies in the difference between aerobic and anaerobic exercise. Aerobic means with oxigen, while anaerobic means without oxigen. A sign you are exercising aerobically is you can talk fluently while exercising, and your heart rate are quite far below the maximum heart rate (180-age)
I have read many times to make goals, and I thought "I'll be ok without it." I began the 5K Your Way, with the intention of having a 16 minute mile by the end, and I have stuck with my program! Having a very specific goal as opposed to simply cardio 3 days a week has been very helpful!
I used to make a lot of excuses. It did not occur to me that what I really needed was to make better choices and opportunities. I really don't like salad. So one day I thought OK, no one else is going to solve this for me... so I took a special trip to the grocery store just to brainstorm and came up with a list of good/better and best choices I could have on hand to reach my vegetable goals each day. I don't have time to exercise... so I searched SP strength exercises and found ones I like.
I wasn't able to get my full workouts in because my daughter is special needs so I learned to work her into my workouts. Whether it is a Jillian DVD or hiking, I give her something to do to help me and then I am able to get a workout in - even if not as high an intensity, it is still activity!
Try going to the supermarket on foot and with just a backpack. This way you limit yourself to buy only the things you really need. Just try it! It is an experience to see the weight of your food intake.
On days when I don't feel motivated to workout, I decide to at least take the time to do a low-impact workout (like walking). I find that once I start warming up, I become energized and can complete my originally planned exercise!
When I lack motivation to exercise, I turn on the Spark. I read the exercise message boards, success stories, watch the biggest loser and then after all of that I just walk into the gym and let it happen. Do anything you feel like doing. Then come back and track it. You did it! Feels so good!
I hate exercising.. but I love Dancing.. I went out and bought Wii's Just Dance! Let me tell you the first couple times I played I was sweating so bad i had to take a shower!! There's different songs with different skill levels. When you do the dance the way they show them.. it really is a work out!
Love to read but don't have time to do it or not as much time as you would like. Hate to exercise but need to do it. I combine the two and play audiobooks while I walk. This allows me to spend the time I would be reading walking instead.
It seems most times, I am invited out to a meal when meeting with a friend or family. To mix it up a bit, I have begun suggesting getting together for a walk, bowling, bike ride, or some other physical activity. This has been accepted with much joy and comments like, "I never thought about that!"
Many times your local library has DVDs, movies, exercise videos, magazines, and music in addition to books. This is a great way to preview these things and decide if you're really going to use that exercise video enough to spend $20 on it!
