When you are looking for something to eat in the fridge ,it's IMPORTANT to know the DATE of when a container was opened. I thought up a simple system that has helped me. I just opened a new container of cottage cheese today. When I am finished with my helping, I CLOSE the container and WRITE on it with a Sharpie permanent marker the DATE I OPENED it ~for example,OPENED 1/5/13. Then I know WHEN it was opened and how GOOD or bad THE CONTENTS IS without having to guess!
Usually, I would jump all into dieting: change everything to fat-free, get the yuckiest stuff just because it's low-cal, turn away from every "fattening" thing I saw. That can only work for so long. I have made my changes less drastic this time around. Some low-fat items are really good. Some things you just need to eat as is and count it in your calories. Moderation & baby steps will get us there!
I've become obsessed with soup and make it all the time. Its a fantastic way to keep the veggie intake high and sodium low. I like creamy soups, but the trouble is cream ruins the healthy goodness. I found adding 1/4 cup of low fat cottage cheese at the end, when blending, adds a nice creamy taste!
