A richer, creamier cup of joe without fat or artificial flavoring

Next time you pour a morning cup, add calcium and protein by stirring in a couple of teaspoons of nonfat powdered milk instead of creamer. I love the way it creates a richer cup of coffee, brings out flavored coffee, adds a hint of sweetness, and gives me the nutritional benefits of milk without watering down my drink. At about 5 calories a teaspoon, it's one of my favorite weight loss secrets. It also works great in tea and cocoa!

Overcome Cravings with Tea/Coffee

I always experience a food craving after lunch. To keep myself busy and tasty,I make myself a cup of tea or coffee. When I have coffee I add a stevia sweetener and semi-skimmed milk. It saves me calories and I feel satisfied.

Make Your Own Coffee Pods

If you have a coffee maker that uses single use coffee pods and you're having a hard time finding them as I am or just find them too expensive...make your own. I found tea bags (no tea, just the bags) at Whole Foods (100 for $4.99). They are larger than the single tea bags so I trimmed the bag a bit. Open the bag and spoon in 4 tbsp of coffee and fold over and staple at the fold. I made 40 pods for $6.57 or 17 cents each.

Dink something when you are hungry

Drink something with no calories when you are hungry that isn't sweet. Try water or decaf coffee without sweetener. It really helps.

Save money making a single cup of coffee

I'm the only coffee drinker in my household. A full pot of coffee encouraged me to drink more than I wanted/needed. The single cup coffee makers (like Keurig) seemed expensive. And don't get me started on "premium" coffee shops!

I started making a coffee concentrate with 1 scoop coffee in 2 oz of water. (I make 30oz at a time). Keep in the refrigerator. When you want a cup, mix 2 oz of mix with 4-6 oz of hot water and Voila! A single cup of coffee that's no more expensive than making a pot.

I found a good list of under 200 calorie drinks at Starbucks. I haven't been there in a while as I am somewhat addicted. These were listed on their website so you can arm yourself before you step in the door emoticon

At Starbucks, the venti Iced Coffee with skim milk is 170 calories, but a venti iced Skinny Latte or Venti Iced Skinny Caramel Macchiato are both lower in calories. Get one of these and make sure to order it skinny (Skim Milk, Sugar Free Syrup) to save calories.

Keeping My Coffee Hot

I have one cup a coffee once or twice a week so I like to make it last. The only problem is that it does get cold so fast. To keep my coffee warm longer, I pour very hot tap water into my coffee cup while my coffee is brewing. I pour out the hot water and pour in the coffee. Works like a charm!

Don't drink caffeine after noon. It will increase your appetite and make you crave carbs & sugar. Instead, have a cup of decaf herbal tea.

Bun 10 cup Coffee Maker - Terrible

I paid about $80 on sale for a bun 10-cup coffee maker. We have the professional Bun 2 pot coffee maker at the church and it is fast and wonderful. I was tired of my old one & bought this expensive one. It overflows when you use more than 6 spoons of coffee with the full pot. If I make it with 8 cups and just under the 6 spoons, it's ok, but when I have company & want more, I have a huge mess every time.

Coffee and Water

I use to fill up on coffee by not limiting how much I was drinking and filling it with empty creamer calories. Now I make sure that I have 8 oz of water before each cup of coffee and I only drink 2 cups of coffee. I also make sure the coffee isn't ready until I have at least started my breakfast.

Coffee = Weight Loss

A cup of coffee in the morning from home or Starbucks makes me use the restroom more often, in turn forcing me to loose more weight. Coffee in moderation is a great push on weight loss.

Tracking

Make sure you accurately track all your meals.
A set of kitchen scales, to weigh things like rice and pasta, is an absolute must.
It is easy to miss calories by not tracking correctly. eg
cups of coffee with milk and sugar three cups a day is just over 100 calories, if you have a biscuit more calories.

Drink Iced Coffee

If you're like me a good latte is one of those things that you look forward to. Switch your hot latte for an iced to shave 20-60 calories off your indulgence. It's also a sweeter treat for the summer months! Nothing better than an iced coffee with friends in the bright sunshine!

Just Do it!!

I have found that when I schedule exercise for myself, and not allow myself to think it over I have no problem getting out the door and going to the gym or going for a walk. If I think to long... I think about how hard it will be and the 100 things waiting on my to do list and I don't do it!

Don't Drink Your Calories!

Do not use your calories on drinks. Water is calorie free, add a lemon wedge or some crystal light 0 calorie powder to add some flavor. Pick a flavored light coffee to brew instead of a dark roast. You are less likely to need sugar and/or creamer. Opt for a calorie free sweetener or tea instead.
