Set New Goals to Build a Record of Success

I have learned that I too often set goals too high. Constant failure to make the mark discourages me and I fall away from trying. Now I set goals that are attainable, see that I can easily do that, then add a little until it becomes a challenge. I sit at that level until that, too, is easy; increasing in small increments to make it a challenge again. This practice is protecting me from discouragement so I can stay the course. Start small. Build big! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I take Criticism as Motivation

Every time my husband, close family members or friends criticise my fat gain, I do not get disappointed; instead, their comment increases my willpower. I take it as a challenge and run 15 minutes extra on the treadmill. I have been able to increase my stamina and strength for the workouts this way.

Be sure to read all packaged food labels. The food industry is sneaky with the chemicals and word replacements. Soy and sugar replacements seem to be in everything!

Workout Challenges

My friend and I take turns making interval workout challenges for each other for the week. We do the workouts on our own, but check in with each other. There's nothing like knowing your friend is completing the workouts to keep you motivated.....I certainly don't want to be the one who phones it in first! We check in with each other which keeps us accountable.

Goal Setting for motivation, planning, actions & SUCCESS!

Set Monthly goals in Micro, Mini, Medium & Major. Blog these at the end of the month for the following month then adjust "other goals" for tracking, accountability & celebrating!! If you are a list person, this works!! Spark Streaks can be set to support each months goals. Micro & Mini goals tend to be the building blocks to medium/major goals. This way you don't get over whelmed or miss steps. You set up your training and prep. My monthly blogs are helping me!! Check them out!

Just walk or 10 minutes...

Seriously this works every time. If I just don't feel like hitting the GYM I tell myself, "I'm just going to walk or do 10 minutes". Toss on your work out clothes and shoes & go out the door. I hit the gym and I am always excited that I pull through and do an amazing workout/run. I am NEVER beating myself up for going only if I don't at all!

Review and Tweak the Plan~

Whenever i'm getting off track or even when i'm feeling a little bored I look over my old blogs. Almost all of them give me a more positive perspective or solutions to what I want to tweak or change. Should I not feel more empowered or motivated to a new direction then I hit some of my SP friends blogs.

Join a Challenge!

Backsliding IS inevitable. When I came back to SP, I'd track breakfast, maybe a snack or two, but rarely got my full day's nutrition in (not to mention activity). THEN, I joined a couple of challenges with the spark teams I'm in. I haven't missed tracking meals and snacks AND I'm getting my exercise in EVERY DAY!

1/2 that portion...Break
fast,
Lunch, Dinner

Half that portion! I half the portion of whatever i'm about to eat. If it can't be halved without wasting part then I don't eat it Example: Sandwich you can half & save for later...cookie you would have to share if a person is available or throw the half away if you have no one to share it with. IF I would have to waste it then I don't eat it. Planning!

Today is a Fresh Start

As soon as you wake, today is a fresh start. It's a brand new day to accomplish things you have put off or want to do. Challenge yourself! You are more capable than you think. Focus strongly on it till you start the list. Build up courage & do the hardest 1st. After doing something that's physically or mentally challenging, you'll feel optimistic, motivated to do more & be on a roll! You can do as much, or little, as you put your mind to. It's all up to you - TODAY! (from Simply Positive, com)

Doing something fun will keep you motivated, especially when you get results!
On our Spark team the Amazing Race Fans, we ran a virtual race around the world via our fitness minutes and by eating fruits & veggies and drinking water. It has been a big success and we are doing it again in July.
Contact me if you would like to join in for our next race.
Whether you do this or something else, make sure it is something you will enjoy so you stick with it!

Be brave. Be bold. Be alive.

Find and commit to a future challenge. Believe that you can do it. Then train, prepare, and ready yourself. Make your goal a reality.

Fast breakfast that tastes like dessert!

Fast -- 1/2c chocolate soy milk (light, pre measured and frozen is best), blend with half a banana, 1tsp honey, couple drops of vanilla and a bit of flax seed. --- yummo!

Allow for a recovery day after strength training

Treat your strength/weight training and the following recovery day as ONE WHOLE UNIT. The act of lifting weights is the challenge, the body's response is actually when progress is made and the muscles get stronger. If you overtrain, you actually can cause damage. So ST, feed your body the proper nutrients (including protein) within the hour afterward, and get enough rest in order to reach your full potential. Sleep is necessary!

5% Journal

I have a notepad/journal I carry with me everywhere. On the first page is a list of my starting weight minus 5%, then that weight minus 5% and so on down the line to my goal weight. When I see that everyday, I get so excited about the day I can check off each one and I stay motivated. It's my own personal challenge.

Super Foods - Trying Them All

There's an article here about 100 Super Foods (http://www.sparkpeople.com/

I read it and felt incredibly motivated, so I decided to challenge myself to bring more variety to what I eat. So, over the next few weeks, I'm going to try my best to check off every one of the 100 super foods. It's like my "to do" list - only better!

I'm excited already! Please post a comment if you're in. Mine is 30 min exercise on the Orbitrek a day, starting Monday!

Challenge yourself always, but make it fun!

Find creative ways to incorporate healthy habits into your life - do the tree pose (yoga) while brushing your teeth; pull your abs in while sitting at your desk or grocery shopping; challenge yourself to eat one extra serving of fresh fruit or veggies every day; remind yourself that every day is a new day to make good choices, and challenge yourself to follow that mantra!
