We are discovering that we can save over $100 per month just by buying in bulk. Things like rice, dried beans, cereal and spices.

Easy Portion Control & Money Saver

Even with the healthier whole grain Crackers, Chips, Pretzels...every good intention of sticking with the recommended serving size becomes defeat if the box is within sight. SO, I decided to count out the serving size into little baggies...now I have the right amount each time no guesswork after the meal...guilt free! Slows down my eating because what you see is what you get. Saves money buying bulk instead of individual packages and baggies can be used more than once. emoticon

Iceberg Lettuce, How I Love Thee...

Iceberg lettuce has a bad reputation. Which is a shame! So, here are some reasons why you should invite iceberg back into your healthy eating plan.
1. its inexpensive
2. mostly water (= hydration)
3. mostly fiber (= more fiber!! -wink, wink!)
4. adds bulk to regular salads (i.e. more food!! yay!)
5. neutral taste (you went to the trouble to make your own salad dressing you should at least taste it!) AND
6. memories (lunch box sandwiches! yum!)

Portion Control

Buy meat in bulk... divide ground beef, chicken, etc... Freeze in individual portions in Ziplock baggies... when you want to make a dish, you just grab a bag... defrosts quick... also cheaper than buying smaller packages.

If you're cooking for 2 a lot... make portions for 2... and so on.

Invest in a FoodSaver

I have used this for 10 years and saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars. I can buy in bulk,\ and freeze individual portions. I can cook ahead, and freeze future servings. I use the bags, and also Ball jars. This appliance has paid for itself many times over! It keeps your food fresh so much longer
