When I began exercising, there were so many programs I wanted to try! We'd go broke purchasing every single workout DVD out there, right? So, instead of buying them, I get them free on YouTube. Although not every program is there, you can find several popular ones including: Zumba, Leslie Sansone, Denise Austin, Tae-Bo, P90X, The Tracy Anderson Method, Insanity... You can also do what I did, create a personalized playlist of the videos you like best for a customized, FREE workout!
I have found classes that I really enjoy and challenge me. I have started Zumba and Body Attack through Golds. I love Body Combat (Kickboxing) and Body Pump. Going to the gym just the use the machines gets so boring -- but I love going to the classes and the instructors hold me accountable.
When I went to my first Zumba class, I felt so un-coordinated and sore afterwards. My instructor even suggested it wasn't for me. Three months later, I easily keep up with the routines and can see the pounds AND inches melting off! When you find an exercise you love, STICK WITH IT -- it'll get easier and easier each time you do it and you'll notice a big change both physically (weight loss) and mentally (improved mood, more self-confidence).
Keep trying different types of exercises until you find something that you enjoy! You may also find that either you do better working out with other people or that you prefer going it alone. Everyone is different and the trick is finding what works best for you!
Not sure if this belongs in the "Exercise" or "Product Review" category. I bought the Zumba fitness for the Wii a few weeks ago and have thoroughly enjoyed it. It works you through from beginner to expert levels and it's a fun way to get some cardio when I can't get to the gym or get outside. I've loved the Zumba DVDs and classes and this is a fun alternative that I actually look forward to doing.
Find a workout that you get up and are excited about. Something you can get addicted to and not feel the same if you don't do it. I found a workout that I absolutely love and get pumped for every meeting. ZUMBA! It is dance that is fun and sassy. Sweat is pouring off of me and I have made many friends in the local classes.
When I first started working out, I quickly realized that my running shoes were not going to cut it for activities like aerobics and Zumba. With my wide feet, I had trouble finding a good pair of cross trainers UNTIL I found Rykas. Currently wearing Assist XTs and they are fantastic!! Excellent support, plenty of room in the front, and so very comfortable.
While it is great to have a pre-scheduled workout plan I have surprised myself at times with squeezing in a good cardio and stretching session out of the blue! I keep my Zumba dvd in the XBox 360 so it's available anytime the TV is! I do this even in my pajamas! That's the benefit of working out at home!
Every since I invested in a pedeometer, I'm challenged to 'Get Moving and Keep moving' each day. It's a lot harder to sit around when I know I need to get some steps in. It's amazing how much we move and don't realize it. Studies show we need around 10,000 steps a day to maintain weight loss. I racked up 4,000 alone the other day in my Zumba class. I'm pumped!! You won't regret the investment!!! Our health is PRICELESS! http://www.shapeup.org/shape
If you have a chance to try a class, DO IT! It is so much fun...even if you are overweight...even if you have 2 left feet...even if you hate working out with other people. Everyone is too worried about what they are doing to notice you, and it is a fabulous workout!!!
Have you ever tried Zumba? If not, it is my exercise/weight-loss secret that is not so much a secret any more.... Each class gets you moving, shaking, dancing, smiling, and having a blast! I love it so much that I am now a certified instructor... and I've lost nearly 40 pounds just by dancing, sweating, and having FUN!!
If you haven't tried this, do it ASAP! It is the most fun exercise I have ever experienced, not to mention the best cardio. I have been doing it for about four days, I've already lost more than 2lbs, and the last two mornings I woke up wanting to Zumba.
I had to get creative after surgery on both of my feet. YOUTUBE to the rescue! In addition to videos for chair aerobics, I also use ZUMBA videos and follow along most of the arm movements. FUN and calories burned from the chair. Great work out.
I have become addicted to Zumba! This is very different for me because I never really looked forward to exercise. Now, I am saddened if I have to miss class. Basically, Zumba is a cross between Latin Dance and Aerobics. If you are not familiar with it, check out some of the demos on You Tube.
My gym has both costly registered fitness classes and free drop-in classes. I've found that the drop-in ones are actually MORE motivating! It's often the same core group of people at all the classes, from Aerobics to Zumba, and they'll hold you accountable if you're gone for more than a day or two!
