Workout at your Desk

Working out at my desk keeps me alert and gets in my activity minutes. I keep it to 10 to 15 minutes. The spark videos are great.

Tracking with magnets

I try to get 8 5-minute walks in during my work day. I have 8 of those chunky magnets that you slap on your overhead metal cabinets. At the start of the day they're all on one cabinet door. As I complete a 5 minute walk I move them to the other door. Hopefully, by the end of the day they're all moved, and I got 40 minutes and two miles of walking done!

Standing Desk Burns Calories

Standing desks burn a lot of calories. You can build them easily for your treadmill (the best standing desk) or you can put your laptop on the counter while working. Take the time to move between sitting and standing while at your computer to keep the blood flowing, increase posture, and get some extra exercise. Your legs and back will thank you.

Be sure to read all packaged food labels. The food industry is sneaky with the chemicals and word replacements. Soy and sugar replacements seem to be in everything!

Even the healthiest “packaged” foods can shock you. READ every label. The food industry can be SNEAKY!!

Vision Board & GOALS

I "vision collaged" my back of the door mirror, this way I "SEE" it all the time!!! Everyday, sometimes several times a day! Foods, Exercises, Physically fit bodies, places I want to go and things I want to do!! Anything that is something to strive for or look forward to I put it on the edge of that mirror. SO when I do that one last check in the mirror before I sweep out the door I know what I want in LIFE!!! EVerything I want to live for is there: Prayer, Familiy, Friends.Healthy Lifestyle!

Make Your Office Your Epicentre

If you're serious about losing weight, you'll be sure to incorporate healthy habits no matter where you are. I choose to make my office job the epicentre for losing weight. I have a large water bottle that I fill in the morning and again at lunch (=6 glasses of water), I have my vitamins and supplements on my desk to remind myself to take them, I have a chain of paperclips to visually remind myself of my goals (1 clip=1 lb and clips are removed from the chain).

Off the couch, on the floor..

Determined to stay off the couch in the evening after a long day and exercise, I found if I sit on the floor I end up doing all my Calisthenics, yoga poses and stretching, while hanging with hubby and enjoying our tv show.

Stress Management: 4 A's - REMINDER! 4 A's

I am keeping the follwing four A's in mind: Avoid, Alter, Accept and Adapt. Whenever I feel my head is ready to pop from stress i'm going to look at the root cause and determine which one of the 4 A's can be applied.

Just walk or 10 minutes...

Seriously this works every time. If I just don't feel like hitting the GYM I tell myself, "I'm just going to walk or do 10 minutes". Toss on your work out clothes and shoes & go out the door. I hit the gym and I am always excited that I pull through and do an amazing workout/run. I am NEVER beating myself up for going only if I don't at all!

Motivation in Plain Sight

1. Find the places where you give up easiest (work, school, home)
2. Dedicate a space in those areas of your life to post reinforcing messages, pictures, etc.
3. Rearrange the area and add new things monthly so it doesn't become stale to look at.
4. Give yourself a few moments daily to look over this dedicated space in your world and remember why it's there.
5. Make it a goal to eventually post a picture of YOURSELF over all of that motivation!

Review and Tweak the Plan~

Whenever i'm getting off track or even when i'm feeling a little bored I look over my old blogs. Almost all of them give me a more positive perspective or solutions to what I want to tweak or change. Should I not feel more empowered or motivated to a new direction then I hit some of my SP friends blogs.

Exercise at work...

I throw in exercise at work wherever I can. A desk job doesn't permit much movement so in addition to Coach Nicoles exercises at your desk I have added the following: Jumping Jacks at the copier or while waiting for anyone or anything. Squats work also at the copier/fax. Use the stairs and get up and go to the persons office, don't use the phone or email. Lunges and squats while on the phone.

Reminder to GET UP AND GO!

I sit at a desk ALL day. To keep from getting too wrapped up and not moving for hours, I set a reminder in my work e-mail calendar to go off every hour every day to remind me to GET UP AND GO!

Workplace Temptation

It seems like every time I come into the office someone brings in bagels or donuts for breakfast. Then for lunch someone orders pizza or tacos or gyros. Then for snacks there are always some kind of sugary treat within in reach. To keep myself on track I always bring my own lunch and snacks, eat breakfast before I arrive, and don't allow my coworkers to influence me to take "just one bite."

Straight to the gym!

I have discovered that I am much more likely to go to the gym after work if I take my workout stuff with me to work, change their, and go straight to the gym. If I go home first, then I just want to get comfy and not go anywhere....

1/2 that portion...Break
fast,
Lunch, Dinner

Half that portion! I half the portion of whatever i'm about to eat. If it can't be halved without wasting part then I don't eat it Example: Sandwich you can half & save for later...cookie you would have to share if a person is available or throw the half away if you have no one to share it with. IF I would have to waste it then I don't eat it. Planning!

Hand Sanitizer = Insta-Shower!

Have you been thinking about exercising during your lunch break or incorporating exercise into your work commute, but have been worried about not being able to shower afterwards? Hand sanitizer works great to take away the stinkies. It kills bacteria, and body odor is caused by bacteria. Just rub a bit of hand sanitizer into those stinky zones (like your armpits, NOT sensitive areas :P ) and it's like an instant shower! So no more excuses! Get out there and exercise!! emoticon

Walk 3 Miles Per Day Without Even Noticing it.

I park 3/4 mile from my work so I get a 1.5 mile walk in every day. I also leave work for lunch most days, so I get another 1.5 mile round trip on those days. I base the distance on the weather, so on sweltering hot days or frigid cold days I park closer.

It's a good distance for me, but not long enough to sweat too much. At the end of the day I have gotten some great exercise in, but never get the "I don't feel like exercising today" feeling anymore.

Fast breakfast that tastes like dessert!

Fast -- 1/2c chocolate soy milk (light, pre measured and frozen is best), blend with half a banana, 1tsp honey, couple drops of vanilla and a bit of flax seed. --- yummo!

Hand Weights

Keeping hand weights at my desk helps me to squeeze in time for toning arms and upper body. I take two 15 minutes at work and I get up from my desk and use the weights to work my tris, bis, shoulders and upper back. I got funny looks at first and then my co-worker joined me and now it's become a normal practice. emoticon
