Be sure to read all packaged food labels. The food industry is sneaky with the chemicals and word replacements. Soy and sugar replacements seem to be in everything!
I'm 33 and I've been battling aggressive cancer (caused by my obesity!) for almost exactly a year. I have no hair on my head - or eyebrows or eyelashes. Some days I'm really down and start snacking - but, I've discovered that what I really want is some time to feel good about myself. I'll give myself a facial and paint my finger and toenails, and then I'll use a really pretty smelling lotion on my legs, arms, shoulders. I even have a fun pink wig. :)
I "vision collaged" my back of the door mirror, this way I "SEE" it all the time!!! Everyday, sometimes several times a day! Foods, Exercises, Physically fit bodies, places I want to go and things I want to do!! Anything that is something to strive for or look forward to I put it on the edge of that mirror. SO when I do that one last check in the mirror before I sweep out the door I know what I want in LIFE!!! EVerything I want to live for is there: Prayer, Familiy, Friends.Healthy Lifestyle!
Set aside 200 cals for ingredients. Prepare a large plate of hors d'oerves with the ingredients. Put it in the front of the fridge. You now have something to grab when you open the fridge! You will be surprised how many snacks you can make from 200 cals. Use cucumber coins, tomato or veggie slices, lo cal crackers,1 tbsp whip cream cheese,or salad dressing, a cheese slice, deli turkey/ham, herbs and seasoning. Example: tomato,, dab of dressing ,sliver of ham. Be prepared!
I often ask myself "What was I thinking when I ate that?" Well...I wasn't thinking! I didn't want to think, because then I'd have to be accountable! So...I find taking a deep breath resets my pace. When I get frenzied, I start eating. So breathing is my pause button. When I can control my pace, and not let others or circumstances get me in a rush, I can control my choices. Hurry, rushing and overall busyness make for poor choices and stressful lives. Be a human being, not a human doing!
Determined to stay off the couch in the evening after a long day and exercise, I found if I sit on the floor I end up doing all my Calisthenics, yoga poses and stretching, while hanging with hubby and enjoying our tv show.
I hear people complain about being tempted by their snack food. Here's a flash! No matter where you are in your journey, take a look at your stash of snacks. Purge that stash with healthy goodies. Focus on snack time at twice a day, three times max! Put fruit and veggies into the mix! Get rid of the bad stuff! It's really easy to do and it will become a healthy change to your lifestyle!
When I look for something to eat in the fridge or even a healthy snack, I found myself snacking on other foods while looking. To get myself to stop this, I drank some water as I looked. Not only was I getting some more water in, but my one hand was 'busy' holding why glass of water. It keeps me from 'snacking' while looking.
You can't snack when you are using both hands, especially when you're working on a computer. I love writing journals and researching ideas for around the home while the tv is on RATHER than reaching for a snack.
Whenever I get the urge to snack on something or am about to sit down to a meal where I have the option of eating something I'm not supposed to, I go window shopping online to look at all the cute clothes I will be able to buy if I choose to make the right choices. This works anywhere nowadays, because even away from the computer I can still look it up on my phone.
The other day, when I wanted to look for fulfillment in the fridge, I opened my mouth and sang instead! I love to sing, and so I shuffled around the kitchen doing the dishes and singing my heart out. You can't sing and eat at the same time, and after a few minutes, I wasn't "hungry" anymore--but I WAS happy, because I was singing a happy song!
Whenever i'm getting off track or even when i'm feeling a little bored I look over my old blogs. Almost all of them give me a more positive perspective or solutions to what I want to tweak or change. Should I not feel more empowered or motivated to a new direction then I hit some of my SP friends blogs.
If I ever think I am hungry, I stop and try to see why--food images, stress, upset stomach, boredom. Oftentimes it is easier to say no to food when I know why I am craving it. Failing that, I drink some water and reevaluate my hunger in 15 minutes, living in a desert makes it hard to stay hydrated at the best of times, so thirst is often misinterpreted as hunger for me.
I am a gal who loves to snack and I embrace it! I am on the WW plan, and I always make sure I have enough points left for popcorn in the evening. I have a microwave airpoppers and I pop 1/2 cup for 3 minutes, spray on a bit of no-cal spray butter, add salt, and enjoy. 1/2 cup unpopped gives me a giant bowl of popcorn that takes a nice long time to eat, and all for 3 points. That's one of the best bangs for your buck you can get with any food (and it's good for you)!
I always want to snack at 9:00 p.m. -- you know, right when my husband breaks out the potato chips. Instead, I put in a set of whitening strips, which guarantees that I can't eat for 30 minutes. By that time, the craving has passed...and my teeth are whiter, too!
I get bored a lot and find myself wanting to snack. I have found that if I snack 3 times a day and each snack I have one of my favorite 100 calorie snack packs it satisfies my snack craving, my sweet's or salty craving and it keeps me in line with my calorie counting so I don't go over my daily calories.
I like to cut up, portion/weigh fruits and veggies into baggies and write the weight in grams on the bag so they ready for me to grab quickly as I leave for work in the morning. This makes it quick and easy to eat and track! They are also perfect snack size, and helps me get my 5 a day (minimum) in easily!
Cherry tomatoes make great guilt free snack! When I open the fridge door looking for something to munch on, they are the first thing I see. They have a nice bright flavor that prevents me from grazing deeper in to the depths of the fridge. Plus, it is kind of fun to pop them in your mouth and hear them crunch! Each cherry tomato is only 3 calories. It is a great effortless way to pop in more servings of vegetables.
Half that portion! I half the portion of whatever i'm about to eat. If it can't be halved without wasting part then I don't eat it Example: Sandwich you can half & save for later...cookie you would have to share if a person is available or throw the half away if you have no one to share it with. IF I would have to waste it then I don't eat it. Planning!
A lot of times I reach for food when I am not really hungry. I try to go by the 15 minute rule. I will get a drink of water and do something else for 15 minutes. If I still want to eat after that 15 minutes I go ahead and have something. Many times that distraction is all I need to get through.
I'm a sucker for chips & dip!! Bought a can of Fritos Southwest Enchilada Black Bean Dip & didn't open it because I was sure it wouldn't be good for me, but then I looked at the label & a serving is just 30 calories and NO FAT!! Imagine my surprise!! Not everything Fritos makes is terrible for you. Had a serving of the dip with a serving of baked tortilla chips - a pretty good snack all-in-all!!
I used to think of a snack as a reason to eat something that wasn't very healthy. I honestly tried to avoid them because I felt guilty when I ate them.
