Seltzer Water

I love the fizzy feel of soda pop, but didn't like the calories and nasty ingredients. I was also trying to lower my sodium. I switched to seltzer water, which I can flavor with real fruit juice like lemon and lime. This has saved me money, improved my health, and I even like the taste of it quite a bit more!

Eating out

When going out with friends/family to a restaurant (as we all have those get togethers with family members that don't understand your goals) order a side salad for your appetizer with a vinegar or vinagrette dressing. Then a broth based soup for dinner. You'll stay within your calories & will be satisfied in the end. Also, I order lemon in my water. The lemon juice will help you to feel full as well. You won't feel like you need to have desert either.

Ratio of Food on plate

Whenever you can (not always) try to make up 50% of your plate with vegetables, 20% carbs and 30% protein.

This way you'll be full, stay fuller for longer and be eating less carbs and creating low calorie meals.

Water Down Salad Dressings

When there isn't a low calorie option available for salad dressings just add some water to the dressing. It coats the leaves nicely for less calories!

Eat frequently and don't get hungry!

Eating a small snack or meal every two to three hours helps me feel full on a low calorie diet (@1200 kcal). Every snack and meal includes protein. This works for me, and I have dropped 13 pounds in five weeks.

Yummy...Pizza alternative!

I see so many people shunning pizza, as I am looking through the site.

If you love pizza, portabello mushrooms is your secret to still having pizza! I take the stems off 2 of largest mushrooms I can
find. I bake them at 400, about 20 minutes. You want all the water to evaporate, if they still seem wet out of the oven, blot them with paper towels. Next, pizza sauce about 1 tsp up to 1 tbsp. Dice finely veg, meat, grate mozzarella. Mix together and pile on caps. Bake til bubbly! yummy!

Go Fish!

At one point i was down 80 pounds from eating fish for supper, i would cook it with peppers, onions, tomatoes and garlic with some Balsamic vinegar or dressing, i find that the fat free dressings help out a lot to crush huger battles. If i am CRAVING chinese food i will cook the fish in Asian toasted sesame fat free dressing, if i want italian i will cook it in fat free caesar italian with some stewed tomatoes. It is just as good with chicken too :D

To get my ice cream fix or when I want something sweet I have a few pints of Arctic Zero on hand. I discovered this product at the Natural Food Market a few weeks ago and I am in LOVE! I can eat a whole pint of something sweet and delicious that mimicks ice cream with no guilt! What is the big secret? It is 150 calories for the whole pint! Yes, the whole pint and they are not shy about telling you, they print that all over their products and different flavors!

Eat leafy greens, fruits and other vegetables!

Raw foods high in fiber like green vegetables and fruit are excellent for keeping hunger down... fiber is absorbed more slowly and will sustain you for longer. It's also very low calorie, so there is no guilt when you feel like eating more! I pretty much stuff my face and lose weight consistently. The things I watch are my use of oils and such when I cook food.

eat spinach

Switching from lettuce to spinach for salad not only gives a boost to the nutrition level but adds no calories. Sprinkle with lemon juice for flavor and forego the dressings. Zero calories added. I eat a big spinach salad every day and vary the veggies I add to it.

Lower Calorie Scrambled Eggs

Standard scrambled eggs call for 3 eggs, some milk, and salt & pepper to taste. I replace the 3 eggs with 2 egg whites and 1 full egg, and I replace the milk with a splash of water. You reduce the calories this way, and I swear you can't taste a difference at all.

Make a sandwich with less Calories but tastes the same

When I want a sandwich, I cut the slice of bread in half to make 2 full size-looking THIN slices. Then I toast them on my panini maker and then put lot of fillings in it :) Same taste and same feel, but it is only 1 slice. For whole grain bread that saves you about 120 calories for the sandwich.

Yummy Low Calorie Snack

Take out the Mayo when making Tuna Salad. I simply add a can of tuna, mustard, and pickle relish. There's a ton of flavor without all those extra calories. Instead of bread I grab some Romaine Lettuce leaves and spread my tuna mix over it. It's delicious.

Western Bagel Alternative Bagels

I so, so, so LOVE these bagels! Just 110 calories, lots of fiber and they taste GREAT! I save enough calories that I splurge on full-fat whipped cream cheese to go with them! (sometimes with some chopped strawberries and nuts and a little honey! mmmm!!)

Grilling and smoking is for everything.

Grilling fruits and vegetables, makes it them easier to eat. It heightens their flavors, and brings your dish to a whole new level. Try it with Fruits also, great dessert on their own this way. With out adding sweeteners and extra calories.
