Eat your spanakopita (Greek spinach pie)

Mind of Matter

It's all in your head. Set yourself out to do something and DO IT!! Don't slack on it either. I take 1 day at a time. If I fall off that day, I start all over the next. What keeps you motivated? Is it God? Religion? Your family? Yourself? You want a smaller size? Picture your new body and use your mind to get the results you want!! You can do whatever you want as long as you put your mind to it!!

Vision Board & GOALS

I "vision collaged" my back of the door mirror, this way I "SEE" it all the time!!! Everyday, sometimes several times a day! Foods, Exercises, Physically fit bodies, places I want to go and things I want to do!! Anything that is something to strive for or look forward to I put it on the edge of that mirror. SO when I do that one last check in the mirror before I sweep out the door I know what I want in LIFE!!! EVerything I want to live for is there: Prayer, Familiy, Friends.Healthy Lifestyle!

Off the couch, on the floor..

Determined to stay off the couch in the evening after a long day and exercise, I found if I sit on the floor I end up doing all my Calisthenics, yoga poses and stretching, while hanging with hubby and enjoying our tv show.

Shoe organizers are for more than shoes!

i purchased hanging shoe organizers with clear pockets (the vinyl kind) and hung them on my children's closet doors. in addition to keeping shoes in there, the pockets are perfect for socks, stockings, hats, scarves and gloves, belts, and even small toys. the clear pockets allow me to see what my children have available for use and allows them to learn organization as well!

Goal-Setting as a Mood Booster

Summer time farmer's markets!

A great way to eat healthy, and enjoy good foods is to take advantage of the summer time farmer's markets! Check your local papers/ towns for times and dates where locals sell their fresh, organic, healthy goods! It's can be a fun event for the family; help support local farmers, and help your community; and if you have never tasted a locally grown tomato; your salads and taste buds have been missing out! A good opportunity to try something new, and cost many goods are cost effective!

No time to exercise...make it a family affair!

I am a mother of 7 children, and I don't always have time to get in a workout. So instead of skipping, I take the kids and off we go! Sometimes we explore a neat trail, or we make an adventure by going on a hike. Whatever we do, we not only are ALL getting in a good workout, but we're spending time together as a family! And I'm teaching my children good habits as well! It's a win all around!! :-)

Review and Tweak the Plan~

Tell your loved ones!

Tell your loved ones of your goals. Explain to them that you just want to get healthy. Maybe they will resist your change in lifestyle (since it might also affect them), but once they see that you are serious, they will respect & support your efforts. And maybe they will even become motivated themselves!

MOTIVATION FROM OTHERS

I have recently started a group of friends to exercise with since not everyone has schedules that match up if you have a group of exercise partners then it doesn't effect you if they "call in" you always have a back up partner and more motivation . The more the merry right??

Keep Positive and gain support

Over the last 5 months I have lost 10 kg which makes me feel great but I was only able to do it because I kept positive. It really does help and if you are able to get family, friends, collegues to support you to then that is even better.

Saving Calories at Breakfast

I love pancakes with syrup and can not eat sugar free so what I do is make whole wheat pancakes and add Original Applesauce to the top. This saves me about 200 calories while still giving me the sweetness I love...Enjoy!!

A Family Affair

I workout with my two teenage kids. Holly and Brandon are just the right age to challenge and motivate me. Not just at the gym. We enjoy basket ball or just a day at the park running the trails.

Piles of Papers

I have four kids (three in school) and a husband...need I say more?! To help control the many papers (permission slips, fliers, calendars, etc.) that arrive on my kitchen counter daily, I keep a slim, free standing file folder box/holder on the counter next to the phone. Found this one at Target for $4! Each member of the family has a clearly labeled file and the kids put their own important papers that they might need later in the file all by themselves. Every night, I go through the files.

Wii Dance Fun!

If you like dancing Wii Just Dance games are a lot of fun. They get my kids moving too! I do it almost every evening. When it's fun, I'm less likely to quit. I plan to alternate with my Wii Fit board and program. Variety make for less boredom.

Shop with a Buddy!

It's easy to give in to temptation foods when you're grocery shopping alone - no one else can see you! But shopping with a buddy can sometimes help you both stay on track. It can even save you both money!

Involve Someone Else

My son (who is 13) and I are doing the Couch to 5K program together. What better way to be a role model? I certainly don't want to let HIM down, so I have no excuses not to lace up those running shoes!

Family Council

When I was growing up, each Friday at dinner, we had what we called Family Council. We discussed family issues ---turning lights off when we left a room, where we would spend our next vacation, increases in allowance, discipline problems, the organizations to which we would donate money, sibling issues, division of household chores & errands, curfews, dating rules, dress codes. Healthy competition

My 17 year old daughter registered with SparkTeen and my neighbor registered with SP, now we get together and try to one up each other on points, pounds lost, cardio minutes, etc. Some how we each win in one category or another.
