Look up menus online!

Going out to eat? Look up the restaurant's menu online (most chains will have nutritional values listed). Choose your meal BEFORE you go to be armed for success!

Make a veggie, fruit, and protein drink to get all nutrients easily without eating three squares a day.

To stay healthy, I mix in a blender two fruits, two veggies, or even five sometimes, pinto beans (protein), one egg (protein), a sugar substitute, and greens. This makes about 2 cups.

Instead of worrying all day how I'm going to get all my nutrients from all my meals, I drink only this one drink, then the rest of the day, I eat one or two small meals.

SHEER WILLPOWER

When seeking motivation to achieve a goal - say a dietary goal or a weight loss goal - I place the goal within grasp. I don't create a goal for myself that is too difficult and I don't put it too far out in the future. Loosing 5 to 7 lbs is a good goal and two weeks is not too far out there, I set the goal and then pursue it doggedly. When that goal is reached I can set another. For me, short bursts of energy is the key.

Portion Distortion!

Best thing I ever did was take 'the idea' to use measuring cups to control my portions. 1 Cup for protein 1 cup for starch/carbs and 2 cups for veg (Steamed, grilled, etc.) if it's a salad mixed - 2 cups (Then 1 cup after only if still hungry). This can be very easy and has helped me to curtail my portions down to a THIRD of what I USED to eat!

Portion Control

There are 'portion pots' available on the market. I use standard measuring cups/jug - 1 cup for each 'food group' (protein, carb and 2 cups for veg). Even then I am potentially serving up too much! BUT it's literally 2/3's LESS than what I used to eat. Portions can be difficult. If having trouble - USE a measuring CUP - IF you are still hungry after EATING slowly, just be careful, be aware. The 'portion pots' were silly prices, I already OWNED measuring cups! :)

Probiotics Are Essential for Prevention of Dis-ease & Obesity

I have used probiotics and digestive enzymes for 20 years. I have found that, in addition to Lecithin and Chromium Picolinate, probiotics assist in keeping the blood sugar normalized. They are also VERY important for the immune system. There are at least 13 strains of bacteria that are essential for preventing inflammatory illnesses and the health of our intestinal system which is the seat of our immune systems. These so-called 'good bacteria' crowd out the nasty ones.

Eating out

When going out with friends/family to a restaurant (as we all have those get togethers with family members that don't understand your goals) order a side salad for your appetizer with a vinegar or vinagrette dressing. Then a broth based soup for dinner. You'll stay within your calories & will be satisfied in the end. Also, I order lemon in my water. The lemon juice will help you to feel full as well. You won't feel like you need to have desert either.

Lowering Blood Pressure

I have lowered my blood pressure in the past 5 months by eating low sodium. I used to take 5 prescription medications a day, now I just take one for blood pressure. I have taken meds for over 30 years and was even slim when I started having HBP problems!
After having problems and even landing in the hospital with 220/110, I learned more about a low sodium diet and started. At first I was drastic, only up to 500 mg a day of sodium. Now I eat about 1,000 mg.

Vision Board & GOALS

I "vision collaged" my back of the door mirror, this way I "SEE" it all the time!!! Everyday, sometimes several times a day! Foods, Exercises, Physically fit bodies, places I want to go and things I want to do!! Anything that is something to strive for or look forward to I put it on the edge of that mirror. SO when I do that one last check in the mirror before I sweep out the door I know what I want in LIFE!!! EVerything I want to live for is there: Prayer, Familiy, Friends.Healthy Lifestyle!

Practice telling yourself "No!"

Foods can be addictive, or just strike up cravings that we feel we must indulge on. Practice saying "NO!" and prove to yourself you don't need extra portions or unhealthy foods!

Off the couch, on the floor..

Determined to stay off the couch in the evening after a long day and exercise, I found if I sit on the floor I end up doing all my Calisthenics, yoga poses and stretching, while hanging with hubby and enjoying our tv show.

Just walk or 10 minutes...

Seriously this works every time. If I just don't feel like hitting the GYM I tell myself, "I'm just going to walk or do 10 minutes". Toss on your work out clothes and shoes & go out the door. I hit the gym and I am always excited that I pull through and do an amazing workout/run. I am NEVER beating myself up for going only if I don't at all!

Learning to say "no," remember you can "later"

Many times when I am having a great calorie intake day, there is a little monster who strikes - the "that is most gorgeous pizza I have ever seen" monster. What I've learned about giving into temptation is that I tell myself I can eat that on my "free" day. I let myself have one once every other week - and then I get it out of my system. In fact, next Saturday, I will be eating Chinese, Pizza, and brownies. Usually when it gets to that day I find one of those things is just enough.

Cheat with a purpose

It can be really hard to diet when you go into it planning to NEVER eat badly again. Decide on specific "cheat days" to have when you reach weight loss goals (i.e. one every ten or twenty pounds you lose, whatever works for you). It can keep you on track when you start craving, and the weight from a single bad day comes off fast when you get back on track.

Diets and Deprivation

The minute you say "I am dieting" you have set yourself up to fail. Dieting is doing something other than what you and your body wants. Dieting implies keeping you from foods you love due them being high calorie or high fat. Dieting implies eating portions a fraction of the size your body wants. Most of all, dieting implies deprivation.

I've learned to modify what I eat to still be able to have large quantities of the foods I love and still stay within my calorie range. I eat what I want!

Review and Tweak the Plan~

Whenever i'm getting off track or even when i'm feeling a little bored I look over my old blogs. Almost all of them give me a more positive perspective or solutions to what I want to tweak or change. Should I not feel more empowered or motivated to a new direction then I hit some of my SP friends blogs.

Keeping Busy

I find that Keeping Busy helps me to NOT Munch thru the day. I plan my day and write it down on a list. From laundry, to canning, Sparking, meals and menu, when to drink my water, when to exercise, budgeting my money, go for a walk, reading, whatever !!!!
Not much time to think about extra food is the Key.
