Too Much Tasting While Cooking?

I fill my sink full of hot sudsy dishwater. All utensils, pots and pans go immediately into the sink; BEFORE I start sampling!

It's just become a habit "not to eat while cooking."

I have my husband taste and season for me, if need be.

Also, it helps to get the clean-up process started BEFORE dinner!

Re-use Little Zip Top Bags That Extra Buttons & Thread Come In

I got this tip from a former co-worker.
Re-use the little zip top bags that extra buttons and thread come in.
She uses them to hold a couple aspirin or other pills when she doesn't carry a large purse. The little baggie fits into a pocket or can be tucked into a small clutch or waist pack.
I use them for my vitamins if I am going away overnight...I just tuck it into my purse. Great space saver!
Use your imagination, I bet you can come up with other uses for them too!

If I'm SPARKING, I'm DRINKING my WATER, too!!!

I decided everytime I want to log on to SparkPeople, I fill a glass or mug full of water and take that with me to my computer desk.
I then sip on it as I read, play trivia, post messages, blog, etc.

I often times have to refill it, because I'm on this site so long!

If I'm Sparking, I'm drinking my water!!!

Make Posts to 4 or 5 DIFFERENT Areas on the Message Board

I RESPOND TO or CREATE A NEW TOPIC in 4 or 5 different catagories in the Message Board, each day.
This makes me focus on several areas...variety is the spice of life!
I'll answer a question in "Fitness & Exercise", one in "Diet & Nutrition", one in "Motivation", another in "Cooking & Recipes" and yet another in "Over 50."
And, it's a great way to keep learning!

I REALLY can have my Cake and Eat it too!

If I really want it, I can have it!
Just not such a big piece and not so often.

Nothing is off limits for me. Because when I label a food “OFF LIMITS” I just want it all the more.

I know, some choices are healthier than others and I try to make good, solid nutritional choices 90+% of the time…BUT I do leave room in my plan for “FUN FOOD.”

That’s just it…I PLAN for the food and that’s how it FITS into my new healthier lifestyle.

Give Yourself a Break! Practice Patience!

Patience with Others may be easier than with Myself.

When I am impatient with myself, I am placing a huge obstacle in my way of reaching and achieving my deepest goals. I remind myself that small steps over time will ADD up to big results in the long run.

Good things DO come to those who WAIT!

So give YOURSELF a BREAK, you would do that for friend!

Kick Up Chili Seasoning Mixes with Flavorful Add-Ins

I have a delicious “from scratch” chili recipe that calls for some unusual ingredients, but it takes forever to assemble.
To save time, I just add these items to a box of chili seasoning mix.
Here’s what I add-in – you can add as many or as few as you like.
For liquid add Beer, Beef Broth and Brewed Coffee.
For an interesting flavor add a Tablespoon each of Cocoa Powder and Brown Sugar.
For beans add a can each of Pinto Beans, Black Beans, Light & Dark Kidney Beans.

Weigh & Measure Foods or Use a Portion Plate!

I tended to under-estimate food portions when I tried to "guess" at a serving.
I still measure my cereal, milk & juice each morning.
I read packaging for portion sizes, and use the Food Tracker.
I use a "fancy china portion plate" I ordered from England for dinner - it has portions beautifully painted on it's face.
A nice, elegant feel that makes portion control more fun.
I hope to one day be able to "eye ball it" but for now weighing and measuring food at home is helping me alot!

Act as if...you WANT to EXERCISE...then you WILL!

ACT as if...
I sometimes have a hard time getting 'out the door' to take my walk.
I have to PUSH myself.
I tell myself: "Just walk for 10 minutes and then you can go back inside." Well, ten minutes usually turns into 30 or 40 or even 60 minutes.
And I'm ALWAYS glad I just pushed myself out the door.
My sister is a runner and says the same thing applies for her too. She'll tell her husband she is going to run for 20 minutes and he'll say: "So, see you in 30 or 40 minutes then."
