Practice Random Appreciation

Everyday people go about their lives expecting things to go pretty much the same way every day. When I notice people stuck in the "same old routine" I give them a compliment.

Maybe it's their appearance, how they do their job, even the sound of their laugh. It makes them feel good and for a moment yanks them out of the mundane into a world of possibilities.

False Friends Fadeout

Sometimes I find myself falling into old (bad) habits and it's not easy to get back on track. One day I realized I was letting others convince me to "go ahead and eat" or to skip my exercise "just this once."
When I figured this out I knew I had to rethink a few relationships. It was awkward to explain how diet/exercise is important for my health. Those who respect that may need a reminder at times but it's working out great. I slowly pull away from the ones who don't.

Low Cost Rainy Day Fun

I get paper bags when I shop & use them as art paper. Pictures from old magazines, something to draw with, scissors & glue and imagination can produce many different projects for very little money.

Sneak more water into my day

I have a hard time drinking 8 glasses of water a day. Finally I started filling soda bottles with water and sipping on them off and on. I stopped worrying about how much I was drinking & it took the pressure off!

Super quick, cheap and healthy.

Carpool to stores, shop around for best prices, then cook/prepare your lunches/meals for the next week.
I often ride with others when they make a grocery run, giving me a chance to compare prices & save on gas. I only get 1 - 2 things due to lower prices. Later I go to my regular store.

Get your head into it.

I spending a lot of time explaining to myself WHY I can do it . I explore my failures, I made bad choices along the way. What are better decisions and what's stopping me from changing my future.

I accept where I am and keep on trying.

My depression makes self worth & motivation a challenge. I try to ignore my negative thoughts. I talk frankly with my 7 yr old about how bad obesity feels and why people need to be healthy - healthy, not skinny. I fake motivation when it's gone. I applaud the tiniest success and forgive my failings.
