I believe the key for continuing progress is to make small steps and monitor those. For example, although I keep my eventual goal in mind, I pick a specific number of pounds to lose a week and only focus on THAT. It helps keep me motivated and focused. And it helps to imagine who I want to become after I achieve my goal. I'm TOTALLY treating myself to a shopping spree afterwards. :]
