I invested a small amount of money in several sets of inexpensive plastic storage containers, especially the smaller ones that are equal to single serving sizes of 1/3 cup, 1/2 cup and 1 cup. When I am storing food, I fill the smaller containers to know automatically how much food is available for future portions.
I tried the suggestion of Judith Beck, PhD, (The Beck Diet Solution) to serve myself the entire meal and spread it out in front of me. Seeing all the food helps me 1) feel more satisfied and 2) judge whether the portions are reasonable. In the past I've often eaten one item and then get the next item and so on. Putting it altogether helps me realize how much I am eating.
When I moved, I had a ton of books that I really didn't need anymore, but still wanted new ones. I found a site- swap.com, where I can list the books I have and the books I want and it sets up a trade between members. All you do is pay for shipping. I like it a lot. I've gotten some things I really wanted, while getting rid of some books I no onger had interest in.
It's emotional torture to me to look at a closet full of clothes I can't wear. I take the things that are too small (or too big!) and try to sell them at a consignment shop. Whatever they won't take goes to Goodwill. These two places are where I buy my current sizes as well. I only allow myself to keep a few exceptions, but they must pass these rules: 1) I really love them and 2) I don't think I'll be able find them again once I reach goal weight. Why keep a too small plain blue T-shirt?
i have found that if i let a few close friends know that i am working on myself, i am more motivated and positive with the situation and more apt to stay on track. When i didn't tell anyone, and attempted to do it myself, friends didn't know and offering me a large piece of cake or donut was nothing. Now that those close friend know that i'm working on myself, they don't offer me the big piece of cake but offer encouragement instead. Keep those close friends closer during this time.
If you get alot of headaches, it could be your bodies way of telling you, drink more water.
I asked Coach Nancy if she could recommend a good low-priced pedometer, and sure enough, she did! She said it's an Omron Pedometer, and I could get it at Walgreens. Sure enough, it was on sale 1/2 price and I got it for $9.99!!! It works GREAT! (I got it beside the blood pressure products by the pharmacy)
