Picnic in the Car NOT Mall Food.
When shopping we always bring an insulated cooler filled with drinks and low calorie, pre-planned snacks.
Its easy to get off track when you're busy shopping & get hungry at lunch. You can't stop, go home & come back so its easy to pick up a mall meal.
A picnic in the car is perfect!
Cheaply getting your water needs
I buy plastic water bottles in the 32 oz size and take one to work.
By the time I get off work I have 40 oz in (including my breakfast), and after exercising and dinner I end up with the rest of my water needs.
It's cheaper and don't fill up the land fills.
Just Do It
A routine is important. Doing things in order & on schedule keeps you moving forward.
On days when motivation is lost having a routine keeps you maintaining instead of gaining.
Make a habit of just doing your routine. When motivation returns you won't have as much ground to re-cover.
I always wear a pedometer to work. Its a visual reminder that every step counts.
I don't have time during my work day to go out in the parking lot for a walk, but I sometimes have a few minutes I can spare. I walk up & down the hall.
A few times doing this & I get 1,000 steps! It all adds up!
I love very spicy and hot foods. When I have a sandwich, I substitute cheese with a Southwestern Mustard or Jalepeno mustard.
With the mustard's big taste, I wouldn't fully taste the cheese. I've eliminated calories and added flavor!
This is something I learned from the Body for Life program.
Write down 3 things you did right today, and 2 things that you wil improve for tomorrow.
It reminds you how well you did & that you are working towards better.
Keep the wrappers
Snack size candy can be deceptively easy to over-do.
If I do get a piece of candy, I keep the empty wrapper in my pocket. By the end of the day I know exactly how many I've ate.
Also the crinkling paper in my pocket reminds me not to get more than I intended to eat that day.
Watching the Clock
On the elliptical I try to go at least a mile in 20 minutes (or less).
To achieve my goal, I have to go .05 miles every 5 minutes.
If I'm just watching tv, I don't keep my HR nor my speed up. I have to watch the clock & mile ticker to get in a great workout.
Now I'm at 1 mi in 17:50 min.
Love the Snack Size Baggies
I don't have a lot of money to pay for the 100 calorie packs, besides which I believe you need to learn to eat real food moderately.
I make up little snack size portions of bags. When I do need to snack, I don't guess. It's already done for me.
Digital Scale & Portion Control
I've found that using a digital scale with EVERY SINGLE THING (for the first few weeks) has given me a much better understanding what is a Serving Size. It's fun when making my lunch I can still put exactly 1 serving in a bag and be off by only 1 or 2 pretzels.
