Put your goals where you can see them

One reason I want to lose weight is to resume mountaineering. So I bought a magnetic picture of Mount Rainier and put it on the frig where I see it everyday. I also put a picture of a runner with the type of body I hope to have on the inside of my gym locker. Both motivate me on a daily basis.

Look up, not left

Against all advice, I weigh myself EVERY DAY. And I write my weight on a wall calendar. It keeps me honest and the weight coming off. But I am aware of the day-to-day fluctuations in weight that have nothing to do with fat lost or fitness gained. So when I compare weights, I look up a row to see where I was last week, rather than left to see where I was yesterday. It keeps me honest ... and motivated!

When measuring liquids

When measuring a certain amount of a liquid, use a clear two cup measure with gradations on the side instead of the measuring cup that exactly matches the amount you want ... unless, of course, you LIKE wiping up spilled orange juice!
