Pecans are good for you. They are delicious, especially toasted, and if you COUNT them out, you won't binge. I believe that unsalted nuts are less addictive, so skip the salt . Pecans are high in protein and healthy oils.

Lately I have been eating a lot of five bean salad. There are several good recipes on Sparkpeople already. I love eating it because it is 1. veg 2. high protein 3. easy to make 4. low fat 5. It fills you up and sticks to your ribs. 6. It is delicious and 7. It keeps for a long time

Better Butter

Mix butter with olive oil to create a healthier spread. I take a stick of butter and then let it soften. slowly mix in same amount of olive oil, using a fork. I do not know whose idea this was originally. But it is heart- healthier than butter ..and cheaper than those expensive butter subsitutes.

low fat salad dressing

make salad dressing with mortar and pestle. pound one half clove garlic with course salt. add one tablespoon olive oil. Then mix well with pestle. Add a pinch of sugar and a tiny bit of mustard. Then add 3 large tablespoons of plain yogurt, and two tablesp. vinegar. adjust seasoning

How to store FRESH Ginger

I peel the fresh ginger, wrap it up in cellophane in big pieces, and then when I need it, I just GRATE some of the fresh stalk into the pan. This works very well. I always used to let the fresh ginger ROT by mistake. I heard this from Doctor Zorba Pastor on Your Health (Radio Show)

Secret Weapon: Hard Boiled Eggs

OK. Maybe it's not a big secret, but eggs make a great snack and the whites are PURE protein, so they fill you up. Sometimes I throw away the yolk and just eath the white. I bought a great hard boiled egg cooker at ACE hardware. I just LOVE that machine. I think this has helped me lose 15

Freeze Old Bananas

We used to let a lot of bananas ROT and then we would toss them. But now , once they get ripe enough, I just freeze them. They are great in smoothies or, just sliced frozen banana is a great dessert if you mash them up a bit. It tastes just like an ice cream treat to me.

support local farmers and join a CSA

Join a community supported agricultural group, or Use your local farmers market. In a CSA you buy a share in what the farmer produces, and you get a box of veg weekly. Eat more local fruits and veg, and stop eating so much processed foods. I think this is a good way to be healthier.

Eat ENOUGH Food

My secret for continuing to lose weight is that I eat ENOUGH food. I do not feel deprived.I always eat ENOUGH so that I am not miserable, nor am I uncomfortable. So I'm losing slowly, but still i feel that I am making progress and getting close to my goal.
