Every week I send myself an appointment for myself. I just write a little note of where I am on Thursday mornings, and what I hope I will see the following Thursday. it's the little "hey, just checking in with me" self check. I smile when I read what I wrote the previous week, and it reminds me, oh ya, I was having a GREAT week, or Gee, I was planning that something might be stressful. If you don't pat yourself on the back, no one else will either.
I have seen (heard and tried), using a smaller dinner plate, I also use a salad fork to eat with (and if you are on the run, those plastic folks are about salad size). You can't get as much on your fork, causing you to slow down (which was a big problem for me), if you are eating slower maybe it will be less! We still need 20 minutes for our brain to know our tummy is full.
I travel for work a lot, and I find eating at fast food or even nice restaurants tend to make me over eat, so now I head to the grocery store. MANY now have salad bars, or pre-made sandwiches. You know exactly what you are getting, and can controls your calories. And if I can, I always send an email to the hotel to see if I can get a fridge in my room, that way, I can pick up water, and yogurt and can start and end my day on the right foot!
I have two containers, one has "silver" in it, one has pennies. I cash the pennies in when it gets full, I just keep getting more silver containers. Also, I "pay myself" 5 dollars a week, I put it in a can, and then when something comes up, I have put away money for it, our washing machine just broke, and I had "squirreled" away all but 40 dollars to pay for it! AND I don't miss the change, or the $5...
