Eat fruits & veggies early in the day to help fit in your 5 servings.

Try to include two or three fruit or veggie servings early in the day so you're not scrambling to fit them all in with dinner.

I usually try to eat strawberries or applesauce with breakfast and if I have eggs, I throw in peppers and tomatoes. Then if I can have a piece of fruit for a snack and / or a salad with lunch, I am sure to have at least five total servings by dinner!

Close that lid! (warning kinda gross, lol)

Close the toilet lid BEFORE you flush to keep it from splashing onto you, the floor, the walls etc.

I didn't think it made much difference, UNTIL (warning TMI alert) I got splashed in the face.

No, I wasn't squatting or bending over and I am not a "short" person. Save yourself time, energy, and that disgusting "I just got splashed" feeling. Close the lid, then flush.

If you are at a public restroom w/out a lid, stand back and use your foot to flush.

Divide and Conquer

When you have to open a can or package of something but only need to use a small amount, divide up the rest and pre-package it for next time.

For example, I generally use 1/4 C of canned pumpkin but there are 7- 1/4 C servings in a can. I measured out the rest of the can in 1/4 C servings and froze them on a cookie sheet covered w/ wax paper. When frozen I put them in marked baggies and put them back in the freezer. Next time I can just grab a baggie and go without wasting anything.

Remove the labels from fresh fruits & veggies

Always remember to remove the label from washable fruit & veggies (plums, tomatoes, peaches, etc.) BEFORE you wash them or the "glue" will be very difficult to remove. If you remove the labels as you are putting the produce away, they will be easier to remove and you'll be less likely to accidentally wash it with the label still attached.

NO EXCUSES!

During my workouts when I start to get tired or start to feel "the burn", especially when I am close to the end or to a point where I change a particular exercise, my mind starts coming up with reasons why it is OK to slow down or let up. I immediately shut down that thinking and tell myself "NO EXCUSES!"

Prepare kids snacks in advance

Prepare snacks for your kids in advance. Keep them in baggies on a shelf or in the fridge and when you are ready to run out to the gym or an appointment you can throw them into your bag and go.

Expectations

Don't set unrealistic expectations for yourself. If you set a goal of losing 50 lbs in ten weeks you are setting yourself up to fail. Don't do it! Instead set a realistic goal of 10 - 15 lbs in 10 weeks but then work hard trying to surpass it.

Don't set yourself up to fail.

Choose exercises you like or that you can at least see yourself doing regularly. If you hate swimming, don't choose "attending a water aerobics class twice a week" as a fitness goal, instead choose something you know you can talk yourself into doing even when you don't feel like working out.

Enjoy your food!

Slow down to eat, just for ten minutes. Savor every bite, think about the flavors, how good it tastes and enjoy eating your food slowly. Don't wash down the flavor after every bite; let it linger for a few seconds before you taste something else or wash it down. You just might feel happier and more satisfied when your finished.
