Spark Up Your Mealtimes

We can all get stuck in a rut from time to time and find ourselves eating the same old dishes week in and week out (day in and day out in some cases). I'm making it a habit to try a new Spark recipe at least once a week. This helps to cut culinary boredom and adds variety and interest to my meals.

Give it a try... you'll enjoy the adventure!

"Healthified" Cooking

Go to eatbetteramerica.com. They have hundreds of fantastic recipes and show nutritional information for each and every one of them. As a bonus, they also have "Healthified" recipes - think meals that are traditionally not good for you, but modified to be better. As a carb and sauce loving Italian, the Healthified Alfredo recipe has changed my life!!

Cutting calories

Use a tablespoon instead of a serving spoon . Also put food on your plate from the stove instead of in bowls where you see ALL that food that needs to be eaten.

ADD NUTRITION PLUS NATURAL THICKENING

I add pureed beans (northern, chickpeas, etc.) to soups and it adds flavor, thickening, and nutrition.

The secret of nonfat plain yogurt

Last week my family wanted potato salad. Now, I love mayonnaise and my potato salad is pretty simple - potatoes, mayo, green onions and salt and pepper = yum. I am counting my calories and don't really have a lot of room for mayo. So....after reading and being on Sparkpeople these past few months I decided to try using some nonfat yogurt for some of the mayo. I did it and my family didn't even notice - and boy the calories I saved.

Here's what I did: emoticon

Fat Free Cottage Cheese

I love creamy food and cheese WAY too much. I have found that adding fat free cottage cheese to many dishes adds protein and gives it more substance. Not to mention if it melts it makes it seem like a sinful treat! It is really helping me to fill up at meals and stay in range! 20 lbs gone now!
