Look forward to eating...in a new way

If you deprive yourself of favorite foods, you won't stick with weight loss. Plan to make healthier versions of foods you love so you will STILL look forward to meal time, rather than feeling like you're eating healthy because you have to. Sparkrecipes has many good recipes to try out.

Try this

On a piece of poster board, write a countdown from your current weight to your goal weight, one pound at a time. Each time you lose a pound, gross that number off. It really motivates me to see how many I've crossed out.

Rethink "diet food"

I think most people are hesitant to diet because of fear of eating bland, "diet food". I have been more successful by learning how to make my favorite foods in a healthier way so I don't feel deprived of anything. Substitute lean ground turkey or extra lean ground beef for regular ground beef; bake chicken with a crispy coating instead of frying it; etc.

Exercise should be fun!

Pick exercise you truly enjoy and will look forward to. You don't have to go to the gym and run on a treadmill. There are so many fun things. I bike and play Dance Central on Xbox, as well as rollerblade with my stepdaughter.

Accept your body NOW!

I have a problem with body imagine, and when I started gaining weight, it just got worse. It got to the point where I wouldn't look in the mirror. Well last week, I MADE myself put on the bikini I had from when I was thin, and really look myself in the mirror. And I told myself, "I love myself for the person I am, and I accept that I have gained weight. I will not feel guilty for gaining weight, but work to lose the extra pounds. "

Get the kids involved

Don't forget to involve the kids in healthy eating. It does no good to take care of yourself and then feed your kids junk. You can make healthier versions of anything. Healthy habits start young.

Use greek yogurt to make dips with

Veggie dips are a big calorie bomb, but I found a solution. MIx your dry dip mix with non-fat plain greek yogurt. Not only do you end up with a fat-free dip, but you get extra protein since greek yogurt is high in protein.

"made with whole wheat" does equal WHOLE wheat.

I learned this from the Eat This, NOt That books. Read carefully when buying breads and things. If it says "wheat bread" or "made with wheat" or "made with whole grains", it is NOT WHOLE WHEAT/GRAIN. It just has some thrown in, and the rest is just processed white flour. It must say "Whole Wheat" or "100% whole wheat" for it to really be whole grain.

Vinegar is a huge money saver!

Vinegar is a wonderful all-purpose cleaner and deodorizer. Yes, it stinks, but it's much cheaper than store-bought cleaners and, even better, no chemicals. Some of my favorite uses for it:

--I put it in a spray bottle and clean counters with it
--deodorizes stinky fridges and plastic food containers
--dissolves lime build-up in a coffee maker
--if you have guinea pigs or other small animals, it will dissolve the calcified urine from the cage and clean it safely with no chemicles! :)

Quote from one of my mom's favorite songs

"Will you remember the famous man who had to fall to rise again? So pick yourself up, dust yourself off, start all over again."
