I have found that Baby Carrots are a perfect snack- they make the great crunch sound, they can't be eaten too fast, they have some great nutrients and are fairly low in calories. they have a little bit of sweetness from the natural sugar in them and so they help with sweet cravings too. And they are portable- when I worked full time I kept a big bag there and worked through them throughout the week. At home I use them to round out meals when I feel hungry after eating my planned food.
When I go to the grocery store, I imagine that I am in a farmers market and the center aisles don't exist. My shopping list is: fresh fruits and vegetables; lean meats like pork tenderloin, london broil, salmon; whole grains like quinoa, brown rice, oats; beans and legumes; organic eggs and lowfat organic milk. NO MORE PROCESSED FOODS including WW and Lean Cuisine meals which aren't good for me anyway. I learned how to use fresh ingredients to whip up delicious meals in 15 minutes. Easy healthy!
Make sure to count every little thing you put into your mouth. It makes a huge difference at the end of the day. gum, mints, gum drop, bite of daughter's cake... once I did that it helped keep my weight at bay.
Have a summer party or a graduation coming up? Take the time to plan ahead for not only that day - but that week. Bump up the cardio a notch- watch your food intake on at least a day or two that week to allow for that little slip that might happen the day of the party.
There are reams and reams of reports about High Fructose Corn Syrup. I only know what's worked for me. As soon as I my husband and I started cutting it out (about a year ago), we started to lose weight (don't go by my ticker, I just joined SparkPeople).
