If you transfer 5% of your check into savings before anything else you'll quickly learn to live without it. Also, next time you get a raise, take the difference and add that to savings. Then forget about savings and live paycheck to paycheck! Then when there's not a next paycheck...you have savings.
Tired of the gym? Think about things like walking around the zoo, flying a kite with your kids, going to the pool or beach instead. Then you can get family time and take a break from the "routine" of working out while still being active.
