I always have a full glass of water next to me so I can make sure I drink my water all day long. I avoid buying empty calorie drinks. During my workout videos, I pause it every 15 minutes to drink a glass of water to stay hydrated. Also another idea I have done in the past especially for my kids, is to set an alarm clock for every hour or so to drink your water. After awhile you can skip setting the alarm, and you will swear you heard it anyways, and automatically grab your glass of water.
The best thing to keep myself from mindless snacking whether healthy food or very unhealthy food is to keep my mind and body busy. I write in a journal, I read a book, I exercise, I play with my kids, paint or draw, working on the house were rebuilding or simply yard work. But unless I'm busy, I eat when I'm not hungry.
