After reading a new diet book which I find always motivates me, I took away a new goal. Watch out for those sugars. They are your enemy. And they are sneaky. They like to hide in familiar and unfamiliar places. You'll find them hiding in such things as ketchup and unsweetened cereal. Read labels and try for no more than 5g per serving. Good luck.
I have kept 40 pounds off now for 10 months and one of the biggest helps for me has been pilates/yoga. I do struggle with making life style changes and the time I set aside for this peaceful form of exercise helps me emotionally as well as physically.
I had a hard time finding a way to drink 8 cups of water everyday. Then, I started using a huge water bottle that holds 3.5 cups of water. I easily down 3 of them per day which puts me over 8 cups per day! =) I think it's a great investment!
When I get the urge to grab something to snack on, I remember a saying I learned through Positive Changes: "Appetite (craving) is of the mind; hunger is of the body." In other words, if my stomach isn't growling or empty, then my urges stem for a mental or emotional desire. That has been very helpful for me.
I always take a container to restaurants. The portion sizes they serve are huge. I immediately take half of the meal and put it into my plastic container as a doggy bag....out of sight, out of mind. If you wait until the end to ask for a doggy bag, you've probably eaten too much already. It's a great way to have lunch or another dinner for the next day.
I find that if I change into my work-out clothes right when I get home from work, I am more apt to go to the gym. Even if I do just sit and relax for a 1/2 hour, I still figure I'm dressed for it, might as well go and get it over with!
