Yesterday we went to our County Fair and we all KNOW that a FAIR is not healthy-eating friendly! Before SP, I would bemoan all the food I COULDN'T eat, but I had purposed beforehand that I would have ONE thing: a chocolate ice cream cone from our local dairy. I brought all the rest of the food for my kids and me to eat. I THOROUGHLY enjoyed my splurge and didn't feel for ONE minute that I was cheating on my diet because I'm NOT on a diet but a journey towards healthier lifestyle.
One of the BEST steps I took was joining SparkTeams that connected me with like-minded people. I believe this is one of the features of SparkPeople that make others' successful. I tried another tracking site but it didn't have some KEY ingredients that SP offers: community, motivational incentives and goal setting. PLEASE join some like-minded teams for the BEST support available! You will see your motivation increase and your success accelerate! Under COMMUNITY search the SparkTeams.
I'm putting a plug in for reading "THE SPARK" ! This concept has made a huge difference in my thinking. Keep doing SP even if we don't see immediate results, EVENTUALLY there will come a time when we hit what Chris calls the 'tipping point theory" and things will start happening for the positive. Example: a friend exercised on treadmill for 4 miles a day for 4 months and didn't LOSE ONE POUND, then she started losing 1 pound a day and has kept it off for over a year! We CAN'T give up! :-))
If you spend that extra time to log your recipes on SparkRecipes, it will pay off big time in the long run! I make my own bread. I took the time to put the recipe on SparkRecipes and then weighed my entire clump of dough and put 128 oz in total servings. [see below]
If you really want to curb your sweet tooth this is a great way and you get a veggie serving to boot with no salt or butter. Bake a sweet potato or yam for 1 hour. Cool & then refrigerate until cold--I usually don't eat the peeling when cold. Slice and enjoy this sweet and satisfying treat.
I LOVE mexican food so I freeze pinto beans w/boiled pork in 1/2 cup servings in Ramekins. Thaw beans. On a flour tortillas I spread beans, cabot Light White cheddar and broil until heated. Then top with at least 1 cup of shredded Romaine, and salsa! If you want add light sour cream and 4 chips.
I usually go for my 3 mile walk in the early morning to beat the heat/humidity but this morning it was VERY foggy and I was afraid to go on our country roads. So I went at 11:00 a.m. and it was HOT and HUMID! So I wet a towel and wrapped it around my neck! It helped so, so much!
