Adjust calorie goals regularly to lose weight

For every pound I lose, I reduce my calorie goal by 5, to reflect my lower needs. It's easier to give up 5 more calories a day gradually, than to start giving up 100 more "suddenly" when I adjust. Once my calorie goal hits 200, then I stop reducing it. (Keep minimum reasonable. Mine stays at 1600).

Use Trackers to monitor your monthly goals

Ever have trouble remembering the goal you set for yourself this month? If you create them as goals in the Trackers, and get in the habit of checking ALL the trackers (Nutrition, Fitness, and Other Goals) each time you are in SparkPeople, then you will see you goals and be reminded of them.

ENJOY your chocolate

Rather than fight a craving for chocolate, I decided to ENJOY my chocolate. The difference is that I don't eat LOTS of chocolate. I get Dove squares or Hershey's Bliss or some other brand of little squares, and allow myself 2 or 3. I put ONE in my mouth and let it melt. Instead of wolfing down a giant candy bar, I get maybe 70-150 calories and a longer chocolate experience, I have been working on one bag of squares for over 2 weeks now!

On a rainy, gloomy day, keep the mood SUNNY.

Don't let a rainy or gloomy day set the mood for you. DECIDE to stay SUNNY. It's amazing how much that helps! I CAN control how I react to the world around me, so I WON'T let it control ME!!!!

Boil Lemonwater to clean Microwave

Somebody told me that if you want to clean your microwave, you should put some lemon in a bowl of water, then boil the water. The steam helps loosen all the crud, and the lemon oil helps cut the grease.

Quit Carping and just Carpe Diem

Instead of complaining & carping about things, look for the opportunities and seize the day!

Hearing myself complain is a sure way to bring myself down... but hearing myself being positive about things is a pick-me-upper!

Soup Up Your Frozen Veggies!

Frozen Veggies are fairly low in calories, but they can be so bland. Butter or margarine will add lots of calories.

Lower-calor
ie
soups like the Progresso Light series offer a serving of soup at under 100 calories.

So,,, If you take half-a-package of frozen veggies and dump it in a bowl (with a lid), then open the can of soup & pour only the liquid part over the veggies, you can cook up a good lo-cal meal (or half-meal, if you're really hungry). THEN I can cook/eat the rest of the soup!

Focus on what's ahead of you. The BEST is yet to come!

It's easy to get held back by our failures -- even the littlest ones. If we let them trip us up, we stop moving ahead.

So when I'm struggling with something, I always try to focus on what's ahead. It may be success! It may simply be completion of a task. Whatever it is, it will be better than moping about the struggle.

Keep a Positive Attitude

A positive attitude helps when things don't go as well as I'd like. With the positive attitude, I can look for something to salvage a mess, or find some learning, or anything else that can put a good spin on things. That helps keep my focus on the goal ahead, rather than the setback that's now in the past!
